Spyderco Ulize vs. Police 3- Opinions?

Hey guys, I unfortunately had to retire my Spydie SS Police my uncle gave me, and though I didn't initially like the design, I've learned to appreciate it and I'd like to try something newer in the "Police" line. Which of these two do you prefer and why? Thanks!

Mmmmm not many people have the Ulize yet. I was sure I wanted a P3 until I saw the Ulize... then I wasn't sure which... decisions, decisions.

Spyderco has a bunch of sick blades coming out, but the wait......sucks. If only they were made in the US.

I had never heard of the Ulize until this thread, though I have 2 stainless and 1 G10 Police. I guess I never heard of it because its apparently not released yet [Edit: it has been released]. The Ulize looks like it would carry and perform very similar to the Police 3, though it obviously has a little sweep and belly to it. Looks like a distant cousin of the Centofante 3, which is one of my favorites. Or like a Police 3 that Willy Wonka ran through his Bubble Machine. Thanks for turning me on to the Ulize. I predict that I'll be adding one to my rotation when I have $160 that I don't know what to do with.

Here is the Ulize, for those who care:

I don't see a problem with their Seki japan knives. Those have the BEST screws of any knife I've ever had. No wandering pivots that need to be locktited or stripped pocket clip screws to be had. Even being flicked open a lot my endura's pivot never wanders from where it's adjusted.

Not that it matters to me, but one big vendor says its Taiwan production. [Edit: Mr. Free2game is correct, below, that its a Seki City production].

Taiwan spydercos have best F&F on their knives. It is hard to beat Tuff or Vallotton the best finished knives I've seen from production ones.

I got one a few days ago and like it very much. The only comparable knife I have is the Benchmade 806. Both are heavy duty folders. It is made in seki city. I'm not sure I can get used to sharpening that recurve blade.

The Ulize is still an unknown quantity and I think it is intended as a 'fighter' rather than a utility blade. I think the Military is a logical progression from the Police. Or you could opt for the latest iteration of the Police, if you prefer back locks. But its hard to go wrong with the Military.

Where do you get that it's a fighter? The blurb calls it a utility knife, and it was designed for police, who are not knife fighting on the street very often as far as I know :p

Really liked this till I saw the price...my wait for the next Spydie purchase continues.

Edit: this meanining Ulize

The "utility" engaged in by the German police does not center on peeling mangos for chutney by the backyard grill, but making bad people alter their behavior at 2 a.m. in downtown Munich. This is implicit in Spyderco's description of the knife, where for example it says that the blade's curvature creates "a slight negative angle of the blade that increases the pressure of the edge during cutting". The knife's apparent purpose is also implicit from its Police 3 lineage. Mr. Sal and company are probably reluctant to discuss severed tendons on their website, so they tapdance around it with "utility" and "perfectly suited to the needs of its intended audience". :)

If all I had was a folding knife for a fight, I believe this would be the one I would want. The above post speaks of Munich, I was stationed in Germany for 2 years in the late 60's and my daughter was born in Munich.

You just have to look at it to know its designed primarily to be a fighter. Bear in mind I use the term fighter loosely. Spyderco calls them MBC knives.

Great knife for a wave mod.

Yeah, their foreign knives are top notch, but it takes them such a long time to get a new design into production.

Yet another tempting knife. Here's a vid with the Ulize. The Tuff and Military make some cameos.

It takes him 50sec to pull the knife out of the box, so jump in there.

The knife looks great but I'll keep the Police 3 because of this ones slight re curve. It's difficult to sharpen it on stones without a guide of some kind.

By the way, When I worked with the Munich police they had MP-5's for the fun stuff in their cars. It probably is just for utility. :)
