Spyderco Worker Sprint Run Green G10

If it will be overproduced, it will be available on clearance at reduced price. Still I am glad that I bought mine.

Overpriced for a VG10 lock back and at 1500 total made overproduced..which seems the way Spyderco is going nowadays=Pass

Where did you see the 1,500 sprint run? That's way too many! They will last for a long while.

It's priced more than the Para-Military2 CTS-204P Green G-10 that I got from KnifeWorks!

I wonder why they did not just offer this or another version retooled Worker as a standard production so it wouldn't have been priced so high. It is clear that it's priced this way because it is all new tooling AND it all needs to be recouped in this one time sprint.

We made 1500 because the smaller qty's of sprints were way under produced. We were getting complaints to make more and with the lower numbers, the aftermarket prices were very high and few could reach them.

At this time, they're oversold by a fair amount. The price is as it should be with our normal margins and the cost to us from the maker.

I passed on the Elmax Para2, but I want to see how much the G10 improves the Worker.

Got mine in a few days ago from KW and I'm impressed. A bit smaller than I expected which, for me, is actually a good thing. The size lends itself well to EDC as does the blade design. I'll likely not use it for anything even remotely heavy duty as I would fear that the tip might be a little vulnerable, but for light use around the house, that blade design is very desirable.

I'm also fond of VG-10 as I find it a good compromise of toughness, edge holding, and ease of sharpening. A good all around user friendly steel. Now, if Sal saw fit to also make the Worker in CF with S110V, well, I'd have to buy it immediately. :D

This will likely become my "chair side" knife replacing my Nishijin Dragonfly (ZDP-189). IMHO, another winner for Spyderco.

Two pages and not a single pic....?

Got it, love it and no, you can´t borrow it:

I´m really happy about that Sprint, was way to young, when the original version came out and finding good used ones...hopeless :-)

The age old question. If you had the chance to do it again, what would you change?

I like it.

Well, I never got the chance to get the 1st edition but I did just recently buy this next version. It is a truly beautiful little knife!!!
BUT - I sent it back in 2 days unused except for opening and closing. I just couldn't make that work. It was for me a 2 hand opener unless or until I developed the appropriate callouss on the tip of my thumb. I did adjust the pivot screws just a bit to see if that would make a difference but no success. I tightened the screw back up and sent it back. I didn't want it for a safe queen.

Still - I really believe that it is a great looking knife and fit my hand (other than for opening) perfectly. Just me. Oh well…

Just wanted to add a little wallpaper off the scanner to go with Reject's great comparison series.

I’ve never seen a quality photo of a Worker 2 screw before, let alone one in the flesh.
:) Thanks for that.

Personally; I think people are under estimating what a classic this model is destined to be.

The first Worker was ahead of its time, built with the best materials and manufacturing methods that could be had at the time. The design from a man whose mind never stops working and never stops learning.

I don’t think just making a copy of a previous model is the Spyderco’s way.
To do so would mean you would have ignore very think you have learnt since you made the first one.

So to my mind; this makes this Worker a more accurate representation of the design criteria of the first Worker.

As for using exotic steals and Ti or Carbon Fibre; well it is called the Worker.

In twenty years time, (if I am still around) I would like to see Spyderco remake the Worker again. And again like this one, the same design, but with all the new found knowledge and materials of that time.

To me, a VG-10 lockback with G-10 scales has no "new found knowledge and materials". VG10 is good steel, but it's very common and not "new found". Same with G10 scalees and a lockback. IMHO the original stanless steel handles were better (thinner, easier for a "worker" to carry), but the new blade shape is the improvement.

For me VG10 is better than G2 and I will take G10 scales or even FRN over SS any time. And lockback still one of the best lock around.

 Plus 1 on that.

In a working knife; G10 or FRN over Steel a handle for me any day.

While the Spyderco design make them safer an most. Just the thought of my hands slipping forward on to the blade when my hands are wet, cold or sweaty. Or if it has just been a bloody long day and I are rushing to get that last job done. Puts me off using a steel handled knives.

Don’t get me wrong! I really like Spyderco’s Steel and Ti handled knives and with due care and in a perfect world your hand should not slip forward on to the blade.
But my world is not perfect and I make mistakes; in fact :o I need all the help I can get.

The first Worker was produce 1981; (from Spydiewiki) what options were available then, compared to now and what options will there be in 20 years time?

I have my original bought when they first came out as Spyderco's first knife, I think I paid something between $30-$40 for it. I wish I would have bought the Evolution set when it came out.

I'm glad it was reproduced, I'm sorry it's outta my price range right now, I'm an happy to have the one that started it all for Spyderco.

There is very attractive price @ KW. Very tempting to get one more. Do not ask me why.
