Spyderco

My problem is i took a lot of this bad rap about the s30v as gospel. I guess you cant believe everything you hear.Until it actually happens to me.

That is a very good lesson, especially on forums where you have a wide variety of experience.

I love spyderco and I'm not posting this to bash in any way but my user mini-manix has two or three chips in the edge from slicing up cardboard. I should point out that it is a factory second, this is the reason I believe this happened. all my other spydie s30v's sail through whatever I throw at them without any problems.

This is one is one of those issues that leave me scratching my head in wonder. I hope don`t encounter this with my spyderco native,so far no problems.Knock on wood.

In my experience of 20+ s30v knives, 4 chipped out (Others were benchmade, strider, microtech). One of them was a Native, but it sharpened out, and never happened again. But this was in the early releases of s30v. I think most manufacturers have worked the kinks out.

This does fit in with the other claims i have heard.

Let me rephrase my question I`m thinking about buying an endura 4, Can someone give me there own person review on this knife?

I am yet to see any pictures of any S-30V blade chipping from any maker other than the infamous torture test with I cut coat hangers or nails with this and look at the gouges LOL.

I have mentioned in my earlier post about some the S30V blades having chipping problems. Some of the posts i read were people were getting chips in the blades by simply cutting cardboard,i have to admit i find this a little hard to swallow. I put my spyderco native to the test and had no problems at all.

Yes if you look up the posts by a lot of them you find that they tend to be putting down everything. Maybe they just like getting dirt flying and see where it falls. I say if you like it and it is made by a reputable company go for it. If you get it and are not satisfied then sell or trade it. That's the fun of the forums!

Thats funny and i totally agree with that. Thanks:thumbup:

I experienced a tiny chip on the very tip of one of the teeth of my fully serrated s30v military. It is so small you really have to look for it. A few swipes on my sharpmaker made it just about nonexistant. What can I expect when I am taking cross-sectional slices off of an aluminum can filled with water with great ease to entertain my co-workers??? :D:D
In my experience I have found s30v to take an edge similar to carbon steel, hold it well, sharpen very easily, be very stain resistant, to be tough as hell and not be exorbitantly expensive. It is hard to ask for more of a folding knife steel. I enjoy a lot of other quality knife steels, but s30v is definately great.

I have heard a lot people say there was a chipping problem in the earlier made S30V blades,But not heard of any problems out of the newer S30V blades.

We still put on thin edges that are, well thinner. While a thin edge does cut better, it does not hold up like a thick edge. It does esily resharpen to any angle you prefer. But you begin with a sharp workable edge geometry.
