please feed me and ignore the troll that says I am a troll.
What do you honestly think of these designes?

Are they box openers or what?

Negative reps comin' atcha for being stoopid! Whadda wiener!

That actually makes a decent box opener, you just hook the top of the knife and pull. I some ways it is vastly superior to a drop point or similar blade. They are problematic for EDC though as they tend to print aggressively around here as weapons. An OLFA is pretty much the ideal box cutter of course, I prefer the heavy duty models for thick cardboard and the extra heavy duty for EDC use.

Just let it go...

If you are a good person and do not want to get yourself in more trouble than you already are, you will lay off the subject.

That's the problem. He's not a good person and he wants trouble.

He does have a semi-valid point there though, those are not ideal box cutters, those are not how they are promoted though, and I would not mind having a Civilian.

I think it's very sad that you appear to be so upset that another formite didn't say something nice about your favourite knife producer.
It definately shows a lack of maturity. Worse you appear to be revelling in it :(

Personally I think the Spyderco Dodo is a better box cutter. The amount of pressure you can apply with it is insane, much better than my wood inlayed Sebbie
;)

As you say, they are not promoted as box cutters so why should they appear in a post apparently labelled as such?

Should I post a picture of an axe and say: "Hey look at this crappy box cutter."?

I bet my chain saw will rip your box open a hell of a lot quicker than your Dodo. ;) :)

Yeah I like the hook on the tip for opening, and the sweep of the recurve is nice for cutting strips for tinder, the handle works great for extended use too. I cut up a full garbage bag of strips the other day.

No, that is why I said semi-valid.

If you want, I doubt it would effect the opinion of serious axes users about the axe, they might think less of you though, which is all that is going to happen here.

In anything the above is likely to turn people away from the Sebenza (when taken in context with the other similar posts) which is what extreme support tends to do in general.

From a standing start ? i.e. my Dodo clipped to my pocket, your chainsaw out in the shed ? I bet my Dodo wins
:D

Ok, Hawkbills are not too useful, but they are still nice. Many of the spyderco hawkbills are designed for MBC, if you dont like that, tough, buy a different spyderco. Also, the Civ. is super useful, you can do so much with that: boxes with the tip, rope hardcore, MBC. It is probably one of the most useful shapes. Now, the Kiwi, is a hollow ground wharncliff, a very useful blade for light tasks. Designed as a gentlemans knife, it is not supposed to be super, it is supposed to cut most every day things.

Ok, now that we have addressed the hawkbills, and why they are not necessarily childish, lets look at one of the best utility designs, used primarily by spyderco. The full flat ground leaf gives strength but not a very steep grind angle. This is very useful for edc. Infact, i would not be suprised to find a number of spyderco knives that can outcut a sebenza.

I think sebenzas are fine, and I like the minimilist philosophy, but please dont get high and mighty because you paid $300 when you could have paid a third that and likely been nearly as happy.

For my purposes, one of the most useful day to day knives I have is my Calypso Jnr. If I've got some heavy duty stuff to take care of I'll go for the SnG or the Sebbie but that little Calypso is a great all purpose knife.

Sebenza4ever, just keep on posting this idiotic stuff. Keep proving you're a one-note fart, over and over again. We'll all enjoy watching you implode. :D

I wouldn't exactly label the Civilian as a "box cutter". That's not at all what it was designed for. Nor was the Karambit. The Harpy and Merlin were not created with "box cutting" in mind either, although they do a darn good job of it. The Harpy and Merlin were designed with the fishing industry in mind. "Rope cutters" would be a more accurate description of the basis for their design. The Kiwi is more of a "Gent's knife", but it'll cut boxes if you wish to.

I find the premise for this thread very entertaining! It would be similar to me posting a picture of a Sebenza and a Mnandi and referring to them as "folding, sharpened pry-bars". :D
