Spyderco's First Traditional Knife

Al, I think it's close but the mods over in the trad section would not agree. ;) The Zytel scales and torx pivot are a problem. That being said, I kind of dig it. Looks a bit like a folding straight razor. I will probably pick one up just out of curiosity. If I recall it will have Bohler n690 steel, which I really like.

Yes, it's close...I'll go along with the employee I spoke with and call it a modern traditional.

...And like I said on my post, I do not know why the lady you spoke with called it a Traditional when the guy who designed it Sal, does not call it one and made it originally for a purpose and not to market it as a Traditional.

Here is a quote from Sal describing it:

The "Double-dent" is a "countersink" on both sides with a ball end mill and does not go through. The trademark round hole is a through hole.

It is a legal almost anywhere, politically correct, socially friendly portable edge.

It has one hole you math expert. :p

I think it's hideous... no offense. doesn't look traditional at all to me, and I'd take a real one over this any time.
kind of reminds me of a big black slug :o

OK, let's see what the similarities are to what some classify as traditional:

Is it a slip joint?
Are the scales metal, wood, bone, horn, micarta, or other synthetic?
Does it have a thumb stud?
Does it have a clip?

Anything else?

That's what I was thinking .it.s a modern take on the cut throat Razer . and I would.t say it was traditional .and its not the knife for me thanks

That's two holes alright. Would be a more attractive knife with a spear point.

I seem to be in the minority here but I'll almost definitely be picking one up (price will be a big factor in this) I've been looking for a traditional-ish knife and this seems to fit the bill. I'm not the biggest fan of the handles but hey I'll give it a shot

Yes, even a Wharncliff would have been nice...but I ordered one anyway 'cause I like knives that are different, individual, and that shake the staid old guard to their core.

I would rather call this their traditional folder (and it's older than this one, not sure if really their first):

So the final version has two holes, but the prototype was one hole + one indent. Now that explains the confusion.
Regardless, hole or indent, it only needs one. ;)
