Spyderedged Blades: Your Favorite and WHY?

My favorite SE Spyderco was the original Endura from 1990. I carried and used that knife almost every day for over a decade, using and sharpening it so much the serrations were almost gone by the time I retired it. I replaced it with a newer model Endura around 2004/2005 but it never felt as right as the original so I never used it much. These days I have 3-4 SE Spydercos that I keep around the house for specific jobs but all those I carry are plain edged.

+1 for the Pacific Salt SE. I love that knife for the same reasons previously stated by others.

To me Spyderco has truly taken the serrated blade to a higher level.
OK talking to you guys and gals here at BF I want to ask which Serrated Spyder is your favorite and why? You can include discontinued models because those are some of the ones I like best anyway.

What's not to love....

Omg, ive always wanted a se yellow handled aquasalt. I hope they put out a satin yellow handle version along with the black.

Hallelujah!!!>> HIGH FIVE!!! >> I knew I wasn't the only one who loved the original C-60 Ayoob model in full Spyderedge. Hey STEVEWEST you talk my language Sir.

Another interesting tidbit is that I'm seeing that Spyderedged, black bladed NATIVE model. Back in 08 when I had a horrible modification job on a vehicle is when I garnered respect for the SE NATIVE. And I still use my 440v SE NATIVE at least 3 to 4 days a week.

And you can't say enough about any of Spyderco's fully serrated Hawkbills. The Harpy and H-1 Spyderhawk top my lists.

One oldie but super goodie is the stainless handled RESCUE model in full SE>> it's truly a mega-beast of a Spyderedged cutter

Oh... I almost forgot.

The one SE Spyderco I do carry is a bright orange Assist. I actually don't carry it on my person but it's kept in the console of my truck as an emergency tool. Can't ignore the possibility of a need for a seatbelt cutter, glass breaker or even the whistle in a traffic accident. It's an insurance policy you hope you never use.

The ASSIST model is one you just don't hear a lot of hype talk about but it's possibly the best EMERGENCY type blade on the market. Just for fun one day a friend of mine who lives in the country and has his own auto/truck junkyard for his own vehicles said that we needed to try out the "glassbreaker" on the ASSIST and it worked superbly. I was even having fun breaking auto glass with it. The whistle works very well and the blade does everything you would need it to do in an emergency situation.

Spyderco has a lot of those "sheepsfoot design models you don't hear much about>> but all of them are great for what they are used for.

The C-01 Worker model the one Brother showed us is still one of my all time favorites>> I only ever owned and used one in Spyderedge and it as an ATS-55 model but it did very well. I would love to see the WORKER model in one of the supersteels in PE & SE both.

One fixed blade Spyder that they offered in Spyderedge was the original Temperance 1 model. I use both my SE & PE Temperance 1 models all the time. I'm truly hoping that at some point that they bring that model back in the H-1 Salt Series.

Look how long the Endura, Police, Delica, Harpy and the Rescue models in Spyderedge have been in the main line up>> there is a reason and that is because they are great blades and perform well. The Spyderedge is truly a great cutting tool.

Delica ZDP is getting more pocket time lately, slowly pushing out my Native 5 LW and Kershaw Skyline S30V.

But my new Native SE is pushing back.

You know it's sort of interesting that I'm hearing more and more of you guys testifying how good ZDP-189 is in Spyderedge>> Even Sal Glesser himself said at one point and I don't want to misquote him at all so I'll paraphrase what I remember his saying about ZDP Spyderedges. If my memory serves me well I believe I remember him saying that the spike part of the serrations tend to break and chip easily in ZDP-189. Which I why I heard that they no longer make the ZDP Spyderedged blades.

But on the other hand I've heard the same complaint about VG-10 and I've used the living hell out of 2 of my VG-10 Spyderedges blades and I've never had one chip or break yet. I did on an S30V model one day though which is one of the reasons I'm not a fan of S30V. I also find it extremely interesting that Spyderco themselves tout the H-1 blade steel as being one of the best for Spyderedged blades whereas H-1 is maybe average at best for plain edges.

A good Brother on another Forum reminded me how good the old GIN-1 Spyders were in Spyderedge>> and he's right because my very first Spyder ever I bought in 1995 and it was a full Spyderedged Mariner model and it was one rugged beast of a blade which helped to convert me to the Spyderedge. If any of you who don't like serrated edges/Spyderedges carry one for at least 2 days as an EDC blade I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Endure 4 FFG & Tasman Salt, both plain edge. Solid knives, you forget you have on you person untill you need them.
Now I want to try some fixed blade Spyderco, the 2015 catalogue has plenty of them.

I am new to Spydercos, but not new to pocket knives. I kayak off the Florida gulf coast, so I figured a "rust proof" knife would be a good thing to have. I took inexpensive "stainless" knives, not Spydercos, with me in the kayak over the past 15 yrs. I've used these in fresh and salt water, just replacing them every year or so as they quit working. I came across a good price on a Spyderco Delica PE about 6 months ago and the hobby was on! Since then I gotten a Dragonfly 2 serrated, then a Salt I PE. I instantly felt connected to the Salt I, and just ordered a Salt I serrated. Like another on this forum I plan to carry the little Dragonfly 2 SE around my neck on a clip as a backup knife, but the Salt I will be my carry knife in the boat. The Salt I just feels right in my hand. The knives on my H1 are unused to this point, as I won't kayak again until the spring. But the Salt Is just feel right in my hand, and it's more than the size, as the Delica is also a lockback about the same size. I can already tell the Salt I SE will be my favorite knife.

I'm really liking the latest version of the Rescue 79mm in orange because of its screw construction.

Spyderco's sheepsfoot blades are great>> they have taken sheepsfoot blades and Rescue type blades for first responders to a higher level. One of my favorite sheepsfoot blades of Spyderco's is the ASSIST I model with the carbide glassbreaker. My very first Spyderco knife ever I got back in 1995>> it was a GIN-1, SE , Mariner model which truly sold me on serrations to a large degree. And GIN-1 by the way was truly a great Spyderedged blade steel whereas it wasn't the best for plain edges.

But what made me a true fanatic on Spyderco's Spyderedged blades was one day when I thought I put an SE Endura in my pocket but by mistake I put a full SE, VG-10 Spyderhawk in my pocket instead. I was working in a wetlands and needed to cut vines, cattails and reeds and that SE Spyderhawk went through them like a laser. It got me hooked on Hawkbills in general and it totally sold me on the utility uses of Spyderedged blades. It also sold me on VG-10 Spyderedged blades.

Spyderco's stainless RESCUE is among one of my all time favorite folders. It is a tank of a knife.
