I voted for the hole
The simplicity is hard to beat, can't fail, never gets in the way, easy to find with your thumb...
:)

Thumbstuds are a lot faster and easier to use for me. But if they're badly made, they can fall out with time.

Indifferent, as long as the mechanism is designed well it doesn't matter what it is, IE flipper thumbstud or hole.

I voted for Hole, flippers are nice too. The reason that I don't like thumb studs mostly is because I've had them catch on stuff when I'm cutting. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is an issue for me. Also, with thumb hole openers you don't have to worry about the studs falling out or what have you.

I voted stud. I like holes and flippers too but I find that holes sometimes make the knife a little too wide in the pocket.

im fairly indifferent. i like flippers, thumbholes, and thumbstuds. it really comes down to what im doing with the knife and which i feel like carrying.

Flippers are nice because the flipper tang is another safety feature; if you don't move your finger out of the way, the flipper tang hits it. You can't get cut closing the blade.

i voted hole. i pretty much agree with the others. studs can fail and get in the way.

Hole for me. Easy to find, flicks open super fast, does not get hung up on the material being cut.

indifferent. doesn't matter to me, i like to mix it up. i'm the same with
lock types.

prefer the hole over a stud, that said i dont mind a stud on a blade with a flipper. love my zt 0300 and kershaw leek as well as my spyderco`s with holes. i agree on the flippers acting like a gaurd to keep fingers from sliding forward on some designs. though ive never found it an issue with my other folders that dont have this feature. i guess i dont do enough stabbing. lol

I marked hole because with everything else equal, I prefer it, but I wouldn't want one on a BM 940 or CRK Sebenza, for instance, because they'd be less compact, and that's part of why I like them.
