flipper, wave, axis flick, just flick, auto, thumb, hole doesn't really matter: I like them all as long as they open FAST!!!!!

But, wrist flick from a heavy weighted, well made 4"+ blade would be #1 choice.

Hole for me, so much easier and quicker. Thumb studs aren't bad, but holes are my preference. Nice poll, interesting to see these numbers.

Wow over twice the votes for the vastly less produced option. Pretty close even if you add in the "other" section. Did not see THAT coming.

Very intriguing isn't it? I thought thumbstuds would have been more popular due to there level of usage, really surprising.

I notice more custom makers using the Spyderhole and giving due credit and royalties to Spyderco lately. Maybe more mfr's would too, but doing it correctly would mean giving props to Spyderco, which opens a can of worms in some ppl's mind. Alot of mfr's want their knives to be of their OWN design FWIW.

Oh yeah, voted hole

I was surprised to see the thumbhole to thumbstud vote ratio, I generally like studs more, but still love the spydieholes.

I like the hole, its the easiest to open.
I also like the Terzuola Disc.
The best kind of thumb stud for me is the slanted kind that Kershaw has on some models. The 1st time I saw that was on a custom Larry Davidson folder.

I've noticed that as well. Giving credit where credit is due makes a manufacturer look classy, renaming it something else looks shady.

I know this is quite an old thread but please let me in.

I do like spyderholes.

But how do you guys deploy your spyderhole knives fast?
For me the middle finger flick is usually the easiest way.
The thumb flick is a pain for some knives especially if the hole is oval and not round.

I quick push my thumb forward (parallel to the handle) but the blade doesn't always flick open. The middle finger never fails.

Fixed blade.:p

After that, I really don't care.

I would like to see many folder designs made as fixed blades.

Harry, it's all about what you practice at, I wrist flick sometimes, most of the time I use my thumb and in the case of my manix2 and most of my Benchmades I disengage the lock and let the weight of the blade open the knife.

Hole. Less chance to slip during high stress deployment. Doesn't get in the way during sharpening and cutting. The wider size is price I'd rather pay for it.

Similarly, studless flipper is second

All my axis knives now are studless, flip it with axis pulled back :)

depends if it is assisted then it cant be a hole, and i like assisted flippers, thumb studs are o.k. assist or no
