Spydies that you love...and hate.

There are many things I love about the manix: its blade shape and handle as well as its reliable lock-up. But I hate the way the Manix is balanced. I personally find the the handle to be too heavy for the knife.

I really like my Perrin Street Bowie but hate the fact that it isn't produced any longer.

Love all my spydies

Hate how my caly 3 has blade play =P (just drives me freaking mad for some reason or other  )

I love the police style , Blade, size, shape etc. I hate the way it can get slippery in plain SS. That's the reason the Endura, not the police became my constant companion since 91 or 92. As my hands get older, it gets worse. I'd love a grippier police. Not nesesscarily Carbon Fibre though. Ti. or G10 is preferable to me. Joe

Not sure of the name of it, got it as a gift about 10 years ago.
The knife and blade are good but it has a non-rotating clip that blocks about 1/3 the blade.
Never could understand why it was made that way.
It is the only Spyderco I own, never had a lot of interest in them after I carried that knife for awhile

I noticed a few of you don't like the Boyle Dent.

I happen to like it. What (or why) do you not like it?

One of the other things I don't care for on quite a few of the Spydies is the very fine tip. I know, I know, it's a cutting tool, but the tips are the only things I've ever damaged on any of my Spydies. I'll admit once was for uses other than cutting, but the other time was during some hard cuts, but cuts just the same. I really like where the Delica4 and Endura4 went in terms of tip design. Just a bit more stout while still being fully capable of piercing.

just got a scorp, my first spydie.

scorp - looove the design, sexy as hell, good allround blade for me, really good value.

only negative i can come up with is that i have small hands so i will modify it a little, move the middlefinger choil ridge so to speak, the one on the SS handle, to move what will be left of it a bit closer to the blade (anyone understand what i mean? moving by grinding, it will be less pronounced but in the right place), for better grip. and some filework all over for better grip, and yeah the clip could have been sticking out a bit more from the handle for better leverage when opening it, otherwise a really nice knife. i will also make all sharp edges on the inside of the handle a bit rounder with a SM-stick. but thats standard for all production knives.

btw i modify/customise all my knives to suit me to 100%, the only exception so far is my emerson mini tanto which ive only modified the blade on (but that does´nt count since its a matter of preferences). so this isnt a bad review or anything like it.

otherwise killer knife, a lot better FnF than i expected for this price.

love the ti and SS ATR's (and most other spydies too) but do not like the joht singh khalsa at all.

Loved the Caly 3 design / ergos, but hated the fact that the two NIB samples I handled had excessive blade play.

Razz

More "hate" than love:

Viele II. Loved the scale materials, in particular the difference. But the handle shape is just not contoured enough for me (no choils of any kind), and worst were the (then new) PB washers which were so thick they'd better fit on a car than on a gentleman's knife. Thankfully, the new PB washers are much thinner.

Kiwi. Nicely contoured handle, works amazingly well, but the entire thing is not wide enough and the blade is just too wimpy for my taste, and I can not get over the looks of the whole thing.

Scorpius: Looks good, got the right contours but it's the one Spyderco knife (in particular the one Eric design) that just doesn't fit my hand. His others (like the Manix and the Dodo) fit like custom made for my hand but this one feels several sizes too large (for my hand).

More love:
The CF Military. What a great knife, but only one goddam clip position....are you kidding me?????

Now, all the above is to be read with a little wink :p.

I love the Para, but I hate the fact that the compressionlock of it develops play after even light use very soon(happened to 2 of them:barf: )

I love everything about this knife: materials, ergos, size, cutting abilities, look,
exept one thing. I hate that it is discontinued.

Love the Renegade, Hate that it was discontinued.
Liked the look of the Full-size Wegner, Hated that it lacked sufficient heft to properly balance the size of blade.

I HATE my blue almite navigator

The thing I HATE about it is the blade. It is too fat and the grind is horrible ive had butter knifes with better grinds. Also it chips like a banshee with normal use (I dont abuse my knives) My experience with this knife is so bad that it will be my first and last spydie with VG10 (and yes its VG10 and not Gin-1)

However i do like the design, even the slots that collect pocket lint and gunk. Plus it was only like 30 bucks so its not all bad.

I love the Chinook but I hate it doesn't come in full spyderedge:grumpy:

Same thing with the Manix though:mad:

No real complains on my end for most of my spydies. Only 2 exceptions.

Native CPM440v (whatever version it is):
Love: Steel is great. Sharpens easily and stay sharp.
Hate: Stupid lock disengages under "white knuckle" situations. Would have bought a newer one.

Dragonfly:

Love: The blade size for not scaring the crap out of ppl. Good size for general use in the city
Hate: Handle is way too small even for me and I"m not that big. Plastic clip don't hold very well. This is the only spyderco I've lost.

love the little t - it just feels like it was made for my hand
hate the little t because i only have one and dont want to lose it or damage it
same with the guntings and Temp FB

love the paramillie - hate that it is RH tip down only - it would be perfect if it had a 4way clip

same with the military - although that could do with a ball lock or compression lock too (im not too fond of the linerlock)

Love my G-10 Military: Light, scary sharp s30v, opens in a nano second.
hate that it only has RH tip down clip, and the liner lock seems waaay too wimpy for hard use/safety.

Sal, I understand that the Military was designed to be a certain way, but could the linerlock be beefed up(a LOT) or changed to a beefy frame-lock?, and it could really do with 4 position clip drill-holes, like the endura 4 and the Manix.
Any Right-hand only clip knife is less desirable to a Left-Handed person like myself.

Love my Manix, Hate that I haven't got an extra two* of them! (Yet;) )

* an extra plain-edge to keep mint, and a combo-edge to rotate w/ the other plain-edge.

Love my Endura 4 plain-edge, slightly annoyed that I dont have every other permutation of the E4. (also "Yet" :) )

Love the Manix... but also hate it because it has rendered all my former favorite EDC pocket knives irrelevant.
