"Squatchers"

If there were lions in Alberta, people would probably find skeletons and take pictures from time to time. ;)

I don't understand what you meant by the post, I wasn't talking literally about cougars.

but thats what i'm talking about, they have been found.

This conversation is very much like saying, "I don't believe in gorillas, cause I haven't seen one in the wild."

Animal X's existence in a region is not dependent on anyone's belief-- this isn't religious faith, this is animal biology and habitat. They either exist, or they don't. "Belief" is not relevant. This isn't a supernatural question.

With zero physical evidence it actually is, and you know why there are no fossils, no bigfeet found in the la brea tar pits, no road kills, no hunter kills, no fur, poop or any other physical evidence? Because they don't, nor have they ever existed. Chris

As far as animals creeping along with ninja like stealth, there are scads of them in the Sierras. Some of them are called mountain lions. Sneaking is not that impossible. Heavily camoflauged hunters do it all the time, just for fun. Preditors and other sneaky animals do it for a living.

The terrain is so intimidating at high altitude, that hikers stick pretty closely to any trails. It wouldn't be too hard at all for a competent biped animal to hang out up there, just a few hundred yards off major hiking trails, and never be seen due to nocturnal habits. A lot of that terrain is so unyielding and rocky, that a halfway smart creature could easily choose to leave no traces. The mulies in the national parks are practically tame, and I easily approached to within 30 yards of groups of them in the waist high brush. They would be the food of choice for any omnivore or carnivore up there.

I couldn't agree more, there are animals out there that display a tremendous amount of stealth and blend in nicely with their enviornment. In my opinion they have several advantages with the first simply being evolution. The second, again my opinion is that these animls are quadrupeds which helps with weight displacement as well as balance/stealth/speed.

A competent biped would have to be extremely self aware of every step it is about to take in unyielding or rocky terrain especially at night. I consider myself a fairly competent biped and I've spent a lot of nights in the woods. Walking in the woods with a headlamp I do ok, if I was to take off at a dead sprint I would be on the ground. Regardless of how good this animals night vision is reported to be, it's biggest disadvantage would be it's bipedalism and most likely competence. I would have to look around but I'm pretty sure I read something about gravity effecting center of mass as well as lateral motions and so on. In something that big it would have a harder time than us navigating rough terrain simply because of this. A quadruped not so much.

And yes heavily camoflauged hunters display stealth all the time. I couldn't agree more on that as well, I think back to a book I read about Carlos Hathcock and yes humans can be just as stealth/sneaky. The thing about this is they are trying to be stealth/sneaky for a reason. Again a 500+ pound bipedal animal would have to be very self aware to be so stealthy. Is it possible, sure, but not likely.

I look at that fella "The Big Show" who wrestles for WWE. He's 7 foot 1 and weighs about 500lbs. Which would be about the right size for sasquatch. I just don't see him moving that much mass that fast in the high country or through dense forest and if he could, how quiet would he really be. And really beyond the physical challenges sasquatch would face such as being hunted, maimed or killed or injuries sustained trying to take down prey as far as I know humans are the only bipedal apex predator in North America(thank you John Browning:D ). An average mountain gorilla weighs about 600lbs and consumes about 50lbs of food a day. Over time if you have an area with a few of these sasquatches that's gonna impact the enviornment to the point people especially hunters take notice. Again just my two cents, I have been wrong many many times before and will be wrong again. :D

OK, frankly, that's all just whistling past the graveyard. I know what I saw.

Erasmus,
I certainly don't want to offend and I am very sure that you did see something and I would love to have a personal experience like that. However, until someone brings in solid scientific proof, such as remains or even a live sasquatch, I will continue to be a disbeliever even if I saw what I thought to be a bigfoot. Chris

In the states, that animal is called a Mountain Lion. You were saying that you know mountain lions exist even though you've never personally seen one. Or so I thought you were saying. Perhaps a translation problem between New Mexican English and Canadian English? :D

and the gorillas of africa were once thought to be a myth
Until somebody bothered to actually look for them. If no one ever looked for a bigfoot before, I'd agree with your example. :)

I completely understand, I was where your're at, once, too. We're all adults here, and we all have to make up our own minds on stuff. I will comment, that the event was so frightening (December, during shotgun upland bird season, in an arid desert canyon) that I have absolutely no personal desire to repeat it, ever.

I love how many people think, If I see one the first thing I am a gonna do is shoot it. If you do and go public with it the game warden will probably give you aticket for not having the right permit and if you don't who would know?

Maybe contact some of the right people for some research.

If you shoot something sneaky, powerful and dangerous, you're just gonna make his friends mad.

Don't piss them off.

Okay... I have been searching everywhere for the post where you tell this story...... I give up..... link me.

My friend who had an encounter said it had a face with Asian feature and almost cat-like....... but not really scary eyes... more like it was startled by him and afraid.

Again, I know my buddy isn't lying to me..... but I can't bring myself to believe he is correct in his interpretation of the experience.

Yeah...give us the story !

I would like to hear the story as well. I won't be judgmental either.

i think the only state that has a "no shoot the bigfoots law" is Washington or California. not sure which one it is, it was on one of the bigfoot shows.

I don't know that it is a law here in Tennessee, but hunters here went round-the-mulberry-bush on the issue of shooting the non-existant mountain lions (Which don't officially exist). It boiled down to being illegal since there was no declared open season on them, therefore they are not a game animal.

Yeah...same thing here in S.E. Ky....They keep telling us that no Cougars exist in Ky but several have been seen & a few on trail cams! But they said it was illegal to kill one for the same reason as they gave you.

I don't think there is a Wa state law against shooting them but a few of the counties have their own. For the record, having spent most of my life in our mountains and forests I don't believe in Big Foot. Too many people roaming the backcountry during hunting season for them to hide forever. That and most of the lower country has been logged at least once now. I have saw many bears and three Mt. Lions over the years.

The film Roger Patterson made in the 60's of a creature walking away, has never been conclusively proven to be fake. In fact end result would have been totally remarkable for even the most advanced of that time. Here's a lot on Patterson's clip of the creature, he managed to take, after being thrown from his horse when he rode upon it, standing by a creek.

If you can look at it in slow motion, you can actually see her calf & thigh muscles flex as she is walking ! & when "She" turns to look at Patterson you can see her "Juggs" bounce ! That kind of stuff you can't fake...especially at the time period this film was taken. ;)
