Stabilizing wood with polystirene ???

I had also heard that a cheap way to stabilize wood is to soak the wood in cyanoacrylate. I have a bunch of maple burl and I plan on soaking a couple of pieces in this stuff for about a week. If it soaks all of the way through, I'm gonna use it.

I hope you have better luck than I did with it.
I soaked some Cumaru (southern chestnut/ Brazilian Teak) in some, and after I let the epoxy cure on the scales, I had huge checks all over the place.:grumpy:
Granted, it could have been the Cumaru, which I X-cut for the scales. I burned all the cumaru in my wood stove after that.:o
