Any dogs that can cause serious injury are "dangerous". As a pitbull owner I'm sure you know that they have a much more powerful jaw than most dogs.... so in an event that they DO attack they could cause a lot more damage. From my personal experience the little dogs are the feisty ones but if they were to "bite" me, I would be more worried about them tearing up my pant legs then actually taking a chunk out of my leg.

As a pit mix owner myself, I wish other people would do a little actual research before stating inaccuracies about the breeds. First off "Pit Bulls" are commonly a title given to a number of breeds, not actually one. Secondly, their bite is no worse than any breed of similar size. The power of the bite is directly proportional to head size. Not that I would want to be bit by one, but facts are facts. An English Mastiff's bite has far more force than any breed called a Pit Bull, and rivals a Wolf's bite. Also, Pit Bulls do not have lock jaw as some state. They are generally not human aggressive. They were bred to fight other dogs, and any responsible pit owner knows this and always keeps them leashed around other dogs because they generally will not back down to any challenge. Typically, Pit Bulls only attack small children and elderly, and most often they attack in packs of two or more. They still do show fear of grown men. They generally approach silently and lunge with a bite. All of those are the tendencies of a poorly raised dog, or one from a lineage of strong dog fighting background. They do however make great family dogs when raised properly. Having been around other "dangerous" dogs, I would have a Pit Bull before I would take a German Shepard, Rottweiler, Doberman, Chow-Chow, and many many other dogs not generally thought of as dangerous. In fact, I would take a mutt over any pure bred dog for health and demeanor reasons 10 out of 10 times.

Anybody ID the knife yet? It looks like a decent quality filet knife.

It looked like an old worn out Normark to me. I have been surrounded by aggressive dogs more than once, on the edge of town while metal detecting. The last time I had a Becker Escabar around my neck. I eventually decided that a collapsible baton made more sense for abusive bi\quadrupeds.

We went through many dogs when I was a kid, one was a Rottweiler... I haven't taken a general consensus or anything but most people I knew when we had it were afraid of it and thought it was dangerous, I think it's still a pretty prevalent attitude towards them, honestly. Had a few mutts too, which also worked out well.

I assure you I'm not one of the retard owners. pits temperament is very calm and happy and is always in the home or back yard

No offence meant john , we have had to fight the dangerous dogs act for over 25 years based on a very small % of pit attacks brought on by mindless owners not doing the basics right and ultimately this law is affecting good owners and other breeds . We've had more fatalities by other breeds the DDA was flawed From the get go and drove pitbulls more underground than ever still some good lines about .But you see the news reports and they always involve strange peeps.

Racism? Bigotry? For real?
MY pit-lineage hasn't bitten anyone (yet) and is SO SWEET-therefore, anybody who thinks pit-lineage are dangerous are racist/bigoted becaue they discern a prevalent characteristic in pit-lineage...riiiight.

If you replace the word "Pit" with black, Muslim, Arab, Chinese, Mexican, Scandinavian, whatever...then yeah, most would then construe the sentence as racist or bigoted. In fact, no one would dare to make a proclamation like that on an open forum for fear of being called out for their bigotry. So I think it's a fair statement based on what we define as racism and bigotry today.

Not saying whether it's justified or not and really have no opinion on the matter. I only commented because I thought your post was a kind of a candy coated and unrealistic perspective. Either a certain type of thinking is bigotry, or it is not. The thinking doesn't become non bigoted just because you happen to agree with it. If that's how it worked then NOBODY would be a bigot. ;) You can't have it both ways.

P.S. Also, I will agree with others that the knife toting gal looked like a bit of a wackaloon to me.
