Stag Ka-Bar's Fixed or not Let's See EM

View attachment 603651View attachment 603652View attachment 603653View attachment 603655View attachment 603656 I definitely have a stag KA-BAR problem, here are some of my "Little Hunter" models and one "Little Trading Post" model. The little hunters have saber ground 3&1/2" blades while the Little Trading Post has a 3" blade. The ones marked Case, Western, and Henry Sears were all made on contract by KA-BAR/Union Cut Co., all are pre-WW2 knives.
Great old knives.
Quite the affliction!:D
I have a similar 'problem,' but with Cattaraugus 225Qs.

Nice pile o' knives there nuto!! Thank you Cate and all for the compliments!!

DSCN2504.jpgDSCN2505.jpgDSCN2506.jpgDSCN2507.jpg I usually try to keep my KA-BAR collecting to the pre-WW2 knives but sometimes I have to acquire newer ones if they have great stag. The KA-BAR USA is late 1940s, and the kabar is early 1950s, both with nice stag handles.

Are there any blade markings on your knife? It is obviously a likely recently modified MK2 but without any blade markings it will not be possible for any accurate dating or to even know for sure if it was made by KA-BAR or somebody else. As far as a sheath goes, they do show up on ebay fairly often.

yes the markings say KA-BAR olean ny i really love the look and feel of this knife. thanks for any help dating it.

You need to post a picture of the markings so gun can let you know with knife pointing up so he can see that was what I believe he needs .

KA-BAR olean ny that is all it says, i don't have a picture of it. but that is how it looks.

thanks

OK I'll have to go out on a limb here without a photo of the actual markings on the blade. The early knives were blade marked with several different markings and then they started making them without blade marks and moved the markings to the guard as there was a thought that the blade marking weakened the blades. I would have to say your knife is one of the 1943 versions but I cannot guarantee this is correct. The original pommel and handle which are missing also give clues to the dating of these knives as they were also changed several times during production as were the stampings. It does appear to have been made from an original WW2 knife rather than a new re-issue KA-BAR and I think 1943 is a good guess based on the available info. Of course it has little value as a WW2 knife since it has likely been recently modified. It looks like a really cool user though, and a nice job was done on the modification.

thanks for the info gunsil, i never thought about them being made from a ww2 knife, i saw another one like it on ebay and it went for quite a bit of money.
