Stag Saturday - Let's See Some Traditional Stag!

I always look forward to seeing this thread, and have missed seeing any contributions from Forum members the past couple of weekends. But I'm compelled to bump the thread myself this evening since, for the first time in my life, I've got some stag I can contribute!:D:D This Buck 389 arrived yesterday, and I'm still amazed at how much nicer it is than I was expecting! Mark and pile side stag are not a perfect match, by any means, but I like each side. The thickness of the stag seems just right to me. It may not be much, compared to the many awesome examples in this thread, but it IS mine! :p:p

I have been wondering when you were going to post some pictures of your first one GT. Congrats and that is some pretty nice stag.I think the stag thickness is pretty good for a knife with bolsters on each end. If it is very thick , then they have to grind off a lot to transition down to a bolster. It also looks to me like the pattern will shine up on the high spots when you carry it.

I appreciate your compliments and remarks, Harry. :) Always takes me a while to get pictures up because I'm just not a very good or confident photographer (not very photogenic, either :p).

Thanks very much, Ron. :)

1830-40s folding dirk with some nice old stag... integral iron liners with bolsters as well not used after 1860 from my understanding.

Very nice long blade Longblade and some great Stag. The SEO&S Barlow that I have , made in approx. 1890's , also has integral liner and bolsters. Thanks for the great picture of a great knife. Do you know the Maker ?

Harry

Thanks Harry!!! There is not any legible tang stamp even with a magnifier... Forgot to mention it is a lockback as well which works great and the blade still even has some snap. Interesting that your knife from SEO&S also has an integrated liner-bolster and made in 1890. I had read in Levine's that integrated liners were pretty much phased out by 1860 and someone else had told me the same.. Guess some still stuck with the old way :)...

Cheers
