If you use instagram, you may have already seen the 15 second video of Guy talking about the new 5.1 design and showing off a blank cut out.

I don't have an instagram account, but I clicked on the picture of the hand holding the blade blank on the instagram feed on the SURVIVE! website and I was able to watch it.

Just going to set this here with an interesting fact: the new spec blade is the exact same weight as the old spec GSO-5.1 blade. The handles may end up making the new GSO-5.1 just a touch heavier than the old version.

I know that many do not like the choil of the 5.1, but for my usage I really appreciate having the choil to choke up with when I am carrying only the 5.1. I hope that there are some 5.1s available for sale once the orders are filled as I would like to try out the new design as well.

I think because of the popularity of the old 5.1 and because the new version is at the top of the production schedule, those who appreciate and use a choil must be the majority.

I think it is pretty awesome how Guy has so many options and models for us varied customers.

There will definitely be some GSO-5.1s available after the preorders have shipped and we have had a chance to do a final QC. I'm not sure how long they will stay in stock, but I do know we are already working on getting another round of blades into production so they aren't sold out for too long.

Sounds good, but how are the current GSO 5's coming along that many of us are still waiting on?
 
Thanks for the input Ellie, it does my heart good. I too was thinking of the 5, but I have a 6 on order that I think will fill that role nicely. But since the 5 will be no more. I might have to give it a go if there are some lying around once the orders are filled.

If you follow the link it says they're working to finish orders made on 4/29. I would guess that the sales were massive as soon as they opened on the 29th and hopefully less as time went on. It will be worth the wait!

That's great news! I've been kicking myself for not ordering one after seeing all the photos of them.

Should have a big batch shipping out Monday! There were a few hundred order placed between April 29 and 30, so it is taking taking some time to get them all sharpened and built.

Back to the GSO-5.1, those have finished at production grinding! It is looking like there won't be any downtime between shipping the GSO-5 and GSO-5.1. Thank goodness for coffee :)
 
Thanks for checking in again Ellie. Coffee is definitely a requirement in my life as well.
