i'm going to start saving up for a sebenza, about $20 or more a week. but i can't decide on a small or large. i know i want a 21. it will be an edc so i was thinking the small. but the large isn't that much different (size) than an endura, which i'm very familiar with. i don't have to worry about scaring anyone with it at the job or public, no one cares and if i did feel like i was going to scare someone with a knife i'd take my sak out. so, as you can see i'm at a standstill. can some of you guys help me out with picking out size for my first? i'm sure this has been discussed many times before, sorry about that.

thank you,
nick

Get a large Sebenza and don't look back :)

From my own experiences, it's a handier size for everyday uses and is every bit as easy to carry once you're used to it being there.

If I was in a position where people around me was a factor and I wanted a smaller knife, give a serious consideration to the Mnandi. Built the exact same way as a Sebenza, it has much the same length of a blade as the small Sebbie and is even more discrete. A lovely bonus is the pocket clip which looks like a pen if carried in your breast pocket.

But, having said that, I'll still recommend that you go for the big boy and have all bases covered from the word GO!

if you really like the size of an endura get the large...blade wise they are very close in lenght, the 21 is a little shorter. if you have a delica that will give you the idea of the small...

i've never held a delica, don't know why i haven't got one yet. but i can see myself getting the small then regretting it later. but i bet i'll also get the small if i get the large. you two alone might have convinced me to get the large. anyone else have any input?

I carry my small sebbie a lot more; I work in an office. They're both great knives. Would suggest you handle both first; that might help you decide.

If you don't mind the size of the endura go for the large.

I prefer the large but sometimes carry the small as it still more than "I" really need in an edc. Sebenzas are nice tough knives.

i always carry my small, but it's a size i like... if you love carrying an endura i suggest you get the large.

when all else fails if you don't like the large you'll be able to sell it used and have enough money to buy a small :D

no sebenza choice is a bad one either way your goin' BIG...

From the parameters you've described, I think a large or even an Umnumzaan may be your best choice. For my daily grind (office work), my small gets more carry time. If that isn't an issue, go whole hog and get the bigger knife. You won't be sorry at all.

My first was. Small and I ended up trading for a large.. It's all iv bought since, btw the delica is a poor comparison as it fills the hand much more than a Small sebenza.. The large is more of a medium IMO and if you get the smAll you will always wonder what ur missing lol.... Good luck you won't be dissapointed either way!!

I'd go for the large first. You will eventually get a small to go with it! :) One thing I like about the large model, You will notice if it accidentally falls out of your pocket much quicker than if your small one comes lose. The large model is a little bit harder to lose, But not impossible! Speaking from experience here.

If you have smaller than average hands, or prefer a lighter knife (3.0 oz vs 4.7 oz), I would get the small.

If you will be wearing gloves while using the knife, I would go with the large as it will be easier to manipulate.

Good luck!

Lg and Sm reg Sebs in large hand, you get the picture..

Nick,
I would like to wish you luck on the purchase of a Sebenza. I hope that after you get your knife you will enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

Not knowing what you like or dislike it is hard to make a recommendation. I do not know if you are looking to order from CRK, get one from a local shop or pick up one second hand. I would suggest, if you are ordering one from CRK get it will all the options you want. After saving to ~$350 saving a bit more worth it. Each Sebenza that I have ordered from CRK is just that much more "special" because it is what I want all the way down to the polished blade.

I like my small Seb. It fits in the front pocket of my jeans nicely and I also like the narrower blade, better for peeling fruit and other fine slicing tasks.

Having said that, you can't go wrong with either.

If size isn't an issue for those aorund you then definitely go large. For you there is no advantage to the small listed in this thread besides what others think, and you already said that wasn't an issue for you. (You already stated the Endura was a comfy EDC for youu so I assume you have normal size hands.)

The large has every advantage besides being quite as discrete, and it's still slightly smaller than an endura both closed and in blade length. If you are comfy with the Endura then the large will feel about right, a touch on the small side. But the small will just be miniscule!

I will say that I had the same issue several months ago. I thought small would be best and picked up a used small micarta. I loved it UNTIL I got my large. Once I received the large, I sent the small in to CRK to be redone. I carried the large and fell in love. The small came back and it hasn't left the safe once. I even put it up for trade.

Moral of the story for me was i should have gotten the large from the beginning and saved some time and money.

I won't even bring the Umnumzaan into the mix because that has now bumped the large. ;)

keep in mind that the "large" is actually THE Sebenza (as Chris originally designed it)

the small came later to fill a market demand.

Chris Reeve gets so much right the first time that i'm still hard-pressed to build up any enthusiasm to acquire a small...
