This is a piece from some wood I stashed away 3 years ago and then forgot I had hidden it. Anybody care to make a guess what it is? This should be an easy one. You don't win anything, but everyone will be impressed how smart you. ....If you guess right.

Just to put things in perspective, the block is about 10"x12" so it's pretty tight figure. So far this is only sanded to 36 grit so you are just getting a hint of the figure and grain.

I know it's kind of bland and ugly, but it might be ok to be used on a really cheap knife.

it is a very lovely piece of wood btw. i would love it..

I have redwood burl that looks almost exactly like that. I also have seen amboyina, thuya,maple, and some other burls that are similar.

There has been a correct guess but I will give another day or two before I tell who guessed right. I stashed 4 big slabs that I thought had the best color and figure. A lot of this will be going to the custom guitar builders but I will be cutting a bunch for knife handles as well.
 
You guys are funny. If you put this on a cheap ugly knife, it wouldn't be a cheap ugly knife anymore.

I'm a newbie and haven't a clue as to what it is. I'll make ya a deal though, I'll give you $20 for it so you don't have to worry about it anymore. I mean heck, you misplaced it for three years. Surely you wouldn't miss it. LOL

Looks kind of like maple - but I wouldn't bet a paycheck against any of the answers here. Very nice - as is all your offerings. You are offering this right?
