Stashed this 3 years ago and forgot I had it

I'm going to guess Amboyna!

Hard to tell for sure, but based on the fact that your white balance looks a little off in that photo I would think that the wood itself is a bit more reddish in real life than on the screen.

You poor devil. You're right that is a bland piece of wood not befitting your skill and craftsmanship. Send it my way and I'll use it for ya'! Oh yeah.... I guess birdseye maple.:D

The photo is actually pretty true to the actual piece of wood. The colors and figure in this become a lot more distinct when this wood is fine sanded.

This came from the most expensive piece of wood my boss has ever purchased. There was a high end veneer mill near us that shut down. Whenever the guy who owned it needed money he would show up with a truck and trailer of wood to sell to us.

One day he showed up with a gigantic burl. It weighed a little over 6000 pounds. Only about 10% of the wood looked like this, but even the plainer pieces still looked awesome.

The burl came from down in the roots of a giant redwood that was unearthed when some land was being cleared. This burl is different than most redwood burl as there is a lot of different colors throughout the burl ranging from light gold, pink, red, orange with some bands of a blueish purple color. Most of this that I have sold so far went to custom guitar builders. I have a few big slabs that I am saving for knife makers.

I will list some blocks for sale in the near future. If any of you who guessed as to the type of wood want any, you can have $5 off the prices listed when I post some. Just remind me when the time comes.

This is probably what I will be using on the meteor knife that is in the works. If you are curious, here is a link to the WIP thread.

Thanks for guessing. Mark
