Steel Junky's - need opinions

While I am giving some feedback here, Sal, let me comment on the Spyderco logo. About an hour ago I pulled a tick out of my beard. Do you see where this is going? When I pull a tick off of one of my dogs and let them smell it to see what I was doing rooting around, I say, "Ugh, nasty, nasty!!!"

I doubt if you designed that logo. I suspect it was designed by someone sitting at a desk who has never had a tick crawling on them. It is something that I have to overcome with hard mental effort when encountering things Spyderco. It is not a stroke of marketing genius. This project would be a good opportunity for a new emblem, if emblem was called for, which it isn't necessarily.

I think most folks who try Spyderco come to associate the "bug" with high quality, innovative design and great value. I know I do. Welcome to the family. I think a year from now you may look back and say "What was I thinking?".

Long Live The BUG!

I could have been a lot more polite, and should have been. Strong feelings tend to carry me away at times, a fault I am working on. The bottom line for me is that I am very interested in this project and hope it materializes. If it includes a "bug", I will bless it and possibly even learn to live with it. Spyderco knives have always seemed to me to understand what "sharp" is all about.

This forum is astoundingly tolerant and learned. I have much to learn and have learned a lot already just hanging out. Mr. Glesser, please overlook my rudeness as you bring this worthwhile experiment to fruition. It strikes me as well worth doing and I hope I can sign on as an extra.

No prob Natch. Passion is good. I tend to get carried away myself.

"Passion is the spice in the spirit that makes excellence possible".

I somehow missed this thread. I would definitely be interested. Will be looking for sign up.

This is a great idea. I'm hoping to sign up for the series and beat on some mules in the name of fun and backyard science.

Um, yeah, make sure to get yourself checked out for encephalitis, as some potential symptoms are evident. ;)

I'm definitely interested in this idea. what's going on with it right now? Am I too late? How much will it cost? sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, it's just really long

Our last info was the blades are being cut. I have not yet seen a sign up thread, but Sal said it looks like there will be plenty to go around. Keep watching the forums for more info.

I just joined up on this forum...but i would love to be part of whatever is left of this project. If there is ever a sign up forum i will be on top of that one.

There was an email on here or the Spyderco.com forum about signing up. But when I emailed a couple months ago the email bounced back. I'll have to keep my eyes open on this one.

I'm VERY late to this thread, but I've signed on for the first Mule and can't wait to try my hand at building the scales.
Also, having worked in the Explosively Bonded Metals industry years ago, I'd love to see an exclusive tri-metal composite blade in the Mule list later down the road.

The brilliant engineers I used to work with still have their own company on the Olympic Peninsula at: http://www.highenergymetals.com

They've bonded all kinds of steel to Ti, aluminum, Columbium, etc.

Go Spyderco!

Oh man, I don’t dislike anything more than that dumb notch at the start of the edge. Please don’t put one on. On a small blade like this one it will catch on everything you are cutting no matter how well done it is, and I have no problem sharpening blades without the dumb notch. It is my opinion putting the notch on this knife would be a flaw.

Strange how opinions vary. The only thing I've done to my new mule so far is to use my Dremel cutoff wheel to install the 'dumb notch'. Every folder I have has a sharpening choil, either by design or by Dremel.

Who do we see about:
- Standard mule sheath, and;
- Standard Mule handle slabs?

I would love some grippy G-10 slabs with some torx fasteners, but I am going to end up with some ironwood epoxied on plus bolts, and then I'm gonna get out the gunstock checkeringtools and have at it for awhile. Leather pouch type sheath (I like them that way and that is about the only thing my leather working skills are up to.
