Steel type for buck 110 folding hunter

What would DLC be considered a steel or a coating. If it is a coating what is it and what steel does it cover?

It's a coating.
There's lots of info on DLC that can be found using the search option.

DLC is short for TDLC (Tungsten Diamond Like Carbon). It is a PVC (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating of Tungsten Carbide which has an HRC (Hardness Rockwell C scale) of around 72. It can be applied to most steel blades, but the coating is quite thin. It will protect a blade from scratches, but the hardness of the coating does not contribute to the wear resistance of the cutting edge.

Since we're talking coating now... The Buckcote knives were TiN and sharpened on one side exposing the TiN as the cutting edge, right?

I have the 110 pro with s30v. I haven’t give it real crazy use yet, but did cut a decent amount of 1/4 and 3/8 poly rope with it. Still shaving sharp. It’s the only knife I carry and I’ve hear good stuff about the Bos heat treated s30. It’s still a little early to tell, but so far I’m more than happy with it.

I only strop, I use the sand paper and mousepad method. Use everything from 400 to 1200, depending on touch up needs. So far the edge is factory, haven’t needed to sharpen it yet. What’s a sharp maker? Is that the thing with the angled rods from Spyderco?
