Steelophiles-what's so important about the type of steel?

Do you buy a well fitting belt or hold up your jeans with an old piece of rope? Better tools for the job at hand. Many of us will never be able to buy the Ferrari or even a new Vette, in knives it is attainable for almost everyone to have the 'latest and greatest.'

I recently saw an article about the Gerber LST, and I pulled out my old one. Great knife but after years of carrying super-steels I could easily tell a difference in less than a week. I generally go a month or more between sharpening, the LST was in need of sharpening by my standards after just a couple days of average usage. Different people have different standards and expectations. Do we need super steels? NO, but in truth we could survive without electricity too, our ancestors did it for most of human history...some people still do. Humans often crave what we perceive as the best. It's like food. Do you eat gruel? Or do you eat what what you find appetizing?

Isn’t 3V a super high edge retention steel?
For 3V, it's more middle of the road wear resistance (roughly VG-10, 440C) but fantastic toughness.

You may want to take a look at David Boye knives. The BDC (Boye Dendritic Cobalt) blades are actually Stellite 6-B which is about half Chrome and half Cobalt. This stuff is very corrosion resistant and very wear resistant. They put it on the edge bulldozer blades. The edges will roll, but they are easy to restore.
Have briefly glanced at David Boye knives before.

Interesting for sure.

Gonna stick with sebenzas for on land and spyderco lc200n salt for the beach for now.

Maybe one day I'll check out DB knives.

I know stellite is tough stuff. Used to line high pressure barrels in ww2 and whatnot as well as baffles for silencers.

Very nice theories, I know them for soo long.
What I don't know, are they cover CH made knives ?
Or Pakistani, or any other 4-th World holes ?
No pun intended.
