ocnLogan - thanks for the kind words and not booting my sorry butt off the Becker forum. (grin)
RE: 6" blades.... What type of use are you guys envisioning for the knife? The KA-BAR/JAB that I HOPE we will have at BLADE is probably going to be in the 4" range... It's an awesome little knife...... the other option is semi customs... pretty much anything is do-able on that front, there just won't be as many and the price will be quite a bit higher.... but if there's demand, it's a great way to test prospective designs for possible, and I emphasize POSSIBLE, production units.
Thanks again for all the interest and constructive criticism, please keep it coming, I appreciate it.
I can't speak for everyone here, but I really think 6in is my "right" size for a single belt knife. I can't say that I KNOW it is, simply because the ones that are out there are too pricey for me (BK12 and ESEE 6).
Here is my line of thought on this:
I love the BK2 because it is a little tank, and it gives me supreme confidence. The downside is that the blade could be a bit longer and its pretty hefty. It works, but its not my "ideal" in that department.
I have a USMC, and really like the 7in blade length, but feel that the length is a little bit too much more than the BK2 for lots of the things I do.
I think that one of the things that sets JAB blades apart from the rest of the KaBar lineup is the hollow grind you have on the Potbelly. I think a 6in blade out of 3/16 with a hollow grind could be really interesting. It would be nice and slicey for most things, and still have a thick enough spine to beat on a bit. I'm generally not a huge fan of recurves, but I know enough to know that I should defer to your superior experience in terms of blade shape. These are just things I've been thinking about recently.
Also, I know I've said this before. But if you're in need of someone to test these protos out... I'll gladly volunteer. I might not be a knife expert like lots of guys around here, but I'm a pretty good example of just a regular guy and could give you the "Laymans" feedback on what I thought of them

.
Anyway, hopefully the other guys that want a 6in blade will chime in. This is just what I'm looking for.
