Steve Johnson and JAB Blades.......

sweet :)

when you do a khukri, give me a call :) i love me my bent knives.

oh, and i told Ethan, he had a chance: Nessmuk pattern. will sell 10,000,000 copies :) okay, 1000s :) esp if value added.

hell, i should call up Toooj and get me my own knife :)

Nessmuk....I like the Nessmuk....a lot.... there may even be one like that in my sketch book.... it's the right blade design for breaking down critters....

I like the one on the drawing more. :D

I'm pretty sure that is the one in the drawing. Pregrind me thinks.

I'm grinning.... it will look a little more like the drawing when it's all finished up.... doing some really different stuff with the edge, anxious to see what you guys think.....

Here's a peek at the Tanto version.... these guys are just about ready to find new homes....

Would you take that straight off the edge when you sharpen it?

Moose

the one in the picture is actually sharpened.... on it's way to hard chrome..... and that is actually where the "different" comes in....and it flies the finger to convention, but it cuts like an angry chainsaw.....it's chisel ground, then sharpened from the mark side to form what i'm calling MicroSerrations(TM).....

Serrations you can sharpen with a conventional flat stone, rock, or anything else you might have available.... I honestly wasn't sure about it until I played with it...for like 6 months.... it works.

Oh, I have no doubt it'll cut, and mark side sharpening is something I've done quite a bit of, too.

Can't wait to try it out.

HONOR THE MODS!!!!!

Well....we're gonna have to get a few out there for guys to try out.... we should come up with some kind of T&E program or something..... could be fun??

I find the handle takes a bit of getting used to, but is comfortable once you use the knife a bit. I still prefer the simple, smooth, non-hotspot inducing Becker handle, I can't stand the stippled grips but I'm sure someone will start crankin out micarta for them if there are new designs coming out.

Here's the same GIMP job I did from a thread months ago, when the same subject was being discussed. Not my best work, but gives you the idea:

This one I left a small notch in:

I like the first one. I think if I added the wrap I put on my Becker handles, it would have a very unique feel to it. That would be worth playing with.....

The JAB sheaths look better to me than any of the Becker sheaths (except the new tweener ones). They seem more functional and less likely to scream for replacement. The potbelly looks like a really cool idea and I want to like it ...

*but*

I just can't get past the JAB handles. I understand and like the concept of the multi-position options and whatnot. If the stock scales were replaced with smooth zytel - flat black or otherwise (not toxic green please) - I think they would be much more attractive. My problem with the current ones though isn't at all fair to the JAB knives but I can't get past it. As a kid, I bought a cheap ($5ish) knockoff of the USAF survival knife. That knife sucked out loud and the handles had the exact same color and texture as the JAB knives - so while I know the JAB stuff is great and has excellent steel / heat treat / etc. those handles still make me twitch. Also - the texture looks to me like blisters just waiting to happen.

y'all just have to snag a Potbelly, and a zombie knife, and use the spare black scales :)

i had doubts until i held one, and chopped some logs at a camp but it seems to work a treat. you could say they're "beefy" :)

but as well, one COULD mod it, i suppose. definitely a good blade but i hear ya, the handle is the part you work with.
