Stickies and change

I had hinted not so long ago about consolidating the "stickies" into just a few stickies with links to the pages that are currently here.
The reasoning for this is that we are coming up on an unusual amount of stuck threads that takes nearly a whole page before you get to content.
Before I do this, I would like feedback from the community. I want it to be a popular decision to do so and not something I just do on a whim.
If so, what pages would you like to see truly "stuck" and which ones are fine to have links in a singular "stuck" thread.
My current thought process would go something like this example;

How to:

 All How to threads contained in this one post via links to actual threads- comments allowed to answer questions-


CRK Pics only!;

 All pics only! threads contained in this one post via links to actual threads- comments allowed for posting pics-


Certainly, we are not going to be able to please everybody, but we can clean it up some. Let's hear some thoughts!
 
Please keep the timeline sticky! Even if it needs tidying up and just the relevant info kept. I feel that's an invaluable source to anyone who's interested in CR history. I reference it all the time. Please keep it!

I agree on the timeline thread. It will be a sticky of it's own.. This was part of the discussion a few months ago :)

Let's keep them coming!
 
I agree consolidation of the stickies is a great idea. I'D say any consolidation that ends up with 5 or fewer stickies would be great.
 
I'd do a Maintenance sticky for all of your new (excellent btw) maintenance threads. Some other suggestions (just one man's .02): I don't think the "some words from Chris" thread is very relevant anymore. I'd un-sticky it. I don't think either of the pics threads really needs to be a sticky. The "just pics of knives" thread in general seems to rise to the top all on its own. I'd un-sticky the M-Th work week thread and the how to make pictures thread. Same for the mnandi and seb specs and photos thread. Photos are gone anyway.

Exactly the suggestions I am looking for- Personally speaking, I don't want to lose some of the older threads..not in a traditional sense anyway.
The threads that have stale information are the ones I am really looking at dropping off...with community driven support of taking this action.
I am not deleting anything- The thread that I unstuck a day or two ago dropped off because it was closed for commenting, so the pages are listed chronologically. It's still there, just waaaay down there.
 
I would love if all of the "How To" threads were consolidated, and I also support keeping the "pictures" threads, but IMO I would like to unsticky basically everything else, a lot of it is from a long time ago and it just clutters up the front page. That's just my opinion though and I support whatever consensus/decision we/you reach. :D
 
I'd prefer older threads that are no longer relevant being "unstuck". The search function can find those if they fall off the first few pages. The "how to" threads, especially since they're being updated, should remain "stuck" :)
 
I'm all for lumping stuff together in a way that makes sense, like the maintenance stuff. I agree with peterbright that 5 or less stickies would be great. Maybe if there are some that are iffy there could be a "Miscellaneous Info" sticky to consolidate them that way?

I think this along with a Miscellaneous sticky with several links for everything else would work fine.
 
I'd combine these into one thread, with some cleaning up done;
Chris Reeve Knives History Timeline To Date & Blade Steel Timeline
Sebenza & Mnandi Specs and Photos
Unofficial Sebenza FAQ (Long)
and possibly Some Words from Chris......


This one can be unstickied, CRK Goes to Monday-Thursday work week


I'd leave Reporting CRK Knock Offs and THE CRK Birthday Wish List as they are


Make one mainteneance thread for all folders. I'd include The “how to make reasonable CRK pictures” there.


I'm not sure on the pic threads, with only 2 I might just leave them as they are.
 
I don't have many specific suggestions, but totally welcome the idea of cleaning up the front page. Thank you Bhyde! Off the top of my head, the "Let's see your CRK posing with scenery" thread would work under the CRK pics banner. Lots of great knives and photography in that one.
 
Thank you all for your input. Some good suggestions.

Here are some rules I have to live by so you understand a bit of the dilemma.

1) I cannot delete content, so cleaning up existing threads is going to be difficult.. Not my rules, but Sparks.
2) Consolidating threads is doable, but then you lose the original intent of the posters.. It would look pretty odd to new users. For example, look no further than one of the stickies in W&C.

I will likely try some of the suggestions on moving things around a bit to give an example.


Letting the workweek sticky drop off..It should be common knowledge by now and it's listed on the website.
 
I think a sticky-reduction would be nice. There are so many up there, I normally just scroll past the "yellow" to get to what interests me.

Here's the list of stickies I never visit: Birthday wish list, History/timeline, Words from Chris, M-Th workweek, Sebenza/Mnandi specs, Reporting knock offs.

I know you've said this won't currently work, but I think it would be nice if there could be subcategories once you click on a sticky. For example, click on a plain "How to" sticky to open a drop-down containing all the individual How to stickies.

I agree- There are quite alot of stickies..some which I have just un-stickied. This has bothered me for some time and I am sure others.
Most are here for content..a quick way to get to that content isn't a bad thing..Utilizing a little different method of getting to threads we like may take one more click, but overall, it just looks cleaner.

I am all for creating new threads and having links to them in the stickies. Others creating those threads and having links to them in the stickies is also good :)
A suggestion not so long ago was somewhat of a CRK "FAQ". Common tools and materials for folders; 1/8 hex,..etc etc.
There are a few of the threads I am probably not going to unsticky. The knockoffs thread..unless there is another thread created on identifications of knockoffs. Then it would be considered. The birthday wish thread is also something that would probably remain a sticky.

Some of the threads, if unstickied, would probably never get visibility..so that is something I want to consider.

Yes- It's an example. I can bring those threads back if needed, but was looking to show what I was talking about.
 
If anyone wants links in the stickies...Such as Cody's suggestion for the CRK posing with Scenery,..Post here and bump them so I can find them a bit easier.
I will edit the stickies to reflect this; Request to be added to the sticky links.
