Still have your first SAK?

The SAK is often "a little bit of home" for a lot of us when travelling. I guess having a good knife that has you covered, especially when it comes to eating (and for that matter, drinking), has a lot to do with the knife's enduring popularity.

I completely agree. When I travel for more than a day, so that I have to take a suitcase, I mail a SAK or two ahead to the hotel that I'll be staying at so that I have them once I'm there. I then mail them back to myself when I return home. I NEVER check luggage, I only take luggage that I can carry on with me, so that rules out the old "check-the-SAK-with-the-suitcase" plan. (I NEVER check luggage because when I do, bad things happen to my luggage. The last time I checked luggage, I waited two YEARS to get it back:mad: )

I still have my first and only SAK. My dad bought it for me in 2000 i believe. Its a tinker with sissors (dunno the technical name) I use it more than ever nowadays, it really comes in handy

I notice a lot of people in the thread receive them as gifts from parents and grandparents. I have given them as gifts, especially as graduation presents for relatives and friends off to college (I have also started leaning toward the soldier for gift giving since it is stamped with the year, and can last a lifetime).
