I had bought a knife from US and the seller had it sent to me via USPS. I live in Bangkok, Thailand. I have been tracking it from USPS website and find that it was in Thailand since January 29 but I still not get it yet. The info in tracking page says that it was "being held and addressee being notified which I had not been notified either. Since it is now 7 days already, I wonder that where it is. I have no idea where it is in Bangkok. I also sent email to the seller and have them check the USPS.

Anyone has this kind of experience please share it to me. Or anyone appears to live in Bangkok please advise me what to do. It is my first traditional folder for me. Moreover, a GEC Barlow (from different seller) is on the way, too.:(

Howdy,
I think you will get more help in the purchaser feedback section:The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

I will be moving this there.

It is probably being held for customs clearance. That can take time, depending on their workload. The tracking will show which customs facility. so contact them. After customs it will say "out for delivery." That's when the mail service can deliver it.

have patience. in my experience the US Postal/Fedex side of the delivery is very quick -THEN we get to Australia..... w he r e t h i n g s j u s t t a k e a b i t l o n n n n g e r.
Just when you've given up hope it will turn up.
NB aussie post is fairly honest -slow but honest.
Whats the Thai postal service like ?

Can't tell about the Thai postal honest. Most of my package is ok. But I used to have a bad experience once. Ordered some very small tools. Sent from US and could not track.
I never get it until now. What I fear most is when the package arrive Thailand and then it disappear without a trace.

Another one is the custom charges, it almost never be the same rate. I don't get it at all. I used to order two watches, a simple plastic Marathon military watches at different time. The first one got through to me easily but I was charged 20% custom plus tax for the second one. It was almost the same watc

Tracking status may suggest that custom or mail carrier may be sending you a letter via snail mail.

Btw, how did they inform you today 20% tax on your second watch? What were the tracking updates saying?

I'm afraid that you'll have to do the footwork tracking down where it may be in Thailand.

Anything mailed USPS will not have a real-time tracking data, and it will only show that it has been delivered to Thailand (which it has). I doubt that the USPS has any more responsibility beyond delivering it to Thailand.

In the future, you should not use USPS for shipping of anything of value. You should use a service that actually tracks packages to your doorstep.

I think he is using USPS EMI which is traceable till he receive the parcel. Normally USPS will have link with respective mail carrier to forward the parcel to addressee and it's trackable.

I am not sure why you said don't use USPS?

I tracked my package via USPS website so that I knew its status. Ironically, I had ordered 3 knives at almost the same time. The last one had already reached my home this morning. It was also sent by USPS (not track-able) mail. The knife we talk about is the first one. Hope that the second one will arrive safely, too.

I also feel that I have to find that knife by myself at a post office somewhere in Bangkok.

@Tangster. The custom sent me a paper inform me to visit their office and pay for the custom charge. At that time it was not a track-able package. Like I said, those 2 watches are virtually the same but the first one just got through.

Khun Jk... If just to pay the tax and 'salvage' the knife, it sounds like a good plan. At times, custom interpret thing differently. We as knife lover, just gotta suck it up with a pinch of salt.

Now, I find both of the rest. It is at my district post office. If I sit tight and wait, I would wait forever.
And again, like I said. I have to pay custom and tax around 15$USD for one knife while none for another.
Not sure which one. But I guess it will be a 65$USD Case Peanut which was sent by track-able USPS.
Another one is 100 $US CSC Trapper (sent by not track-able package).

I am very fortunate that my mother's maid used to work at a post office. She contact her friend there
with USPS tracking no. It makes the thing a lot easier.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Khun Tengster...., I got your point. Fortunately, I never found 'strange' interpretation from the custom or have to do the 'unnecessary salvage'. Just not dare to buy expensive goods and have it sent from abroad. It will break my heart for sure if I have to pay huge shipping cost and then have the problem with the custom at my home country. :)

Now it is on Paypal claim process. Since I the day purchased from this site, I have never gotten any response from them

If the package is at your district post office, how/why is it a Paypal claim?

This is the basic reason why people in the US are so hesitant and put off by the thought of mailing anything overseas. Unfortunately, the tracking outside the US is limited, and unless the buyer is willing to pay for something other than 1st Class International that is the way it goes. These scenarios have become all too predictable. Ship items via FedEx or UPS, bite the bullet and pay the shipping charges to avoid this. Locate your local customs office and familiarize yourself with the process involved in getting your package delivered. It is not the responsibility of the seller to locate the package in a foreign country.

I agree completely.

Reading this thread, the paypal dispute is a very big red flag against selling to jk13542.

It is clear that the seller did everything required and the package is in the buyer's country. But the buyer filed a dispute with paypal, who is now likely witholding the seller's money and might even return that money to the buyer, sho then could get the knife AND his money back.

jk13542, I must ask again, why was the paypal dispute filed? Why are you asking for your money back when you have clear evidence that the package has arrived in your country?

Opps, very sorry. I post on the wrong thread. May be I was too sleepy last night. :very_drunk:
For this thread, I had already got the knife.

But for another one, I ordered it since February 8 and, until now, I have never got any response from the seller.
Therefore, I opened the dispute on Paypal.

Sorry to make you confuse.

Before getting trigger happy with paypal disputes, you should really make some efforts to contact the sellers via email or phone. Especially if it is a store. It's been a whole 2 weeks since your order, minus weekends and holidays observed, around 9 days. It appears that patience is not one of your stronger virtues. You might end up blacklisting yourself when people search your user name on the forums.
