I have never seen one of these 89OT's and had to buy one for my own curiosity. The "MM89" stands for Master Mechanic which was a series of knives made by Imperial Schrade from 1989 to 1999 for True Value hardware stores. I found this thread below from Codger... I have learned so much from his research, even from the very first day I logged on to Bladeforums to learn about Parker-Frost knives. He sort of inspired my curiosity for knife history / research...

I use a serrated blade in the kitchen a lot so I think this is going to be my new "at work" knife for dicing up apples and summer sausage ;)

Kevin, I landed a couple of 89OT’s and a couple MM89’s too. I gave one of the Master Mechanics away. Both of my Old Timer branded knives have Schrade on the blades. I’d be curious how many of them got MM89 blades?

Great knives :) From what I can gather... the 89OT was made from 1989 to 1999 and the original ones 1989-1992 had the MM89 stamp and/or Master Mechanic shields. There are the possible variations in stamps/shields until they were all converted over to 89OT stamps and Old Timer shields.

Another picture of a firm favourite. Queen Cutlery No.26 Small Stockman in WCSB and D2 steel. Note the ultra low riding Sheepfoot which doesn't compromise in hand grip when using the Master blade. GEC could learn from this pattern and make a really good small stockman. But of course, it'll be carbon, carbon ;)
