The Winchester BB Stockman is a very pleasant carry, fine bone the series has and great action too-loud talk! I'm lucky to have this 'worker' and a reserve 'sleeper' gifted to me by a most generous Forumite. Think I'm correct in saying that there are 2 variants of this Stockman: a small shield version with crocus finish and a larger shield version in glaze finish-why there were these varities I don't know, parts supply, finishing? Thanks for your additional note, @oldmanwilly -- no worries!
Sorry to hear about the spring on your Muskrat. Fortunately, I have had no such issues with Northwoods or any other Queen/Schatt & Morgan knives from that period. I'll have to respectfully disagree with the comment that such a problem was a common occurrence with early Northwoods knives. Problems like the one you describe apparently surfaced from time to time with knives made by Queen (as certain threads here will attest). But, I don't think it's fair to attribute any such issues to Northwoods as a brand generally. Just my opinion.
To come full circle, here's another Queen-made stockman -- a 1987 Black Box Winchester...

And, a fine "worker" it is, Will. Especially like the jigging on that one.The Winchester BB Stockman is a very pleasant carry, fine bone the series has and great action too-loud talk! WOW!! Real pretty bone on that beauty!!!

Thank you! The celluloid has definitely shrunk and cracked on that butter and molasses one. Part of me wants to replace it, but part of me also wants to keep it for how pretty it is.Did those! Especially the ol’ butter and molasses celluloid![]()
Is there a "Butter and Molasses" acrylic you could use (or specify) for a re-handle?Thank you! The celluloid has definitely shrunk and cracked on that butter and molasses one. Part of me wants to replace it, but part of me also wants to keep it for how pretty it is.
That's some FINE jigging, a nice big clip point too. Very niceThe Winchester BB Stockman is a very pleasant carry, fine bone the series has and great action too-loud talk! Had to come back for another look - that is perfection in a pocketknife!
Thank you, my friend…The only thing that would make that one any better is one more dot, Bruce!Had to come back for another look - that is perfection in a pocketknife!
Very nice of you to say so, thanks. These are a very worthwhile series of knives and if you're interested check the thread on them. Fine jigging it isThat's some FINE jigging, a nice big clip point too. Very nice![]()
That’s a good thought, I will have to take a look. It is pretty, just cracked and shrunk, but if I can find a similar acrylic, that would be cool. I would probably send it off to a professional to rescale/replace the swindon key construction. Is there a "Butter and Molasses" acrylic you could use (or specify) for a re-handle?
Celluloid that has shrunk may be or soon will be outgassing.![]()
