That is a beautiful pocketknife! OH
Thank you, sir! I inherited it from my late brother, who could never understand why I liked it so much. (He wasn't a stockman guy.)That is a beautiful pocketknife! OH
Fantastic! What’s the detail on that run? What year and what did they call the covers?I’ve never actually carried or used this one, but every once in a while I take it out and admire it … validating its existence in a way.
Kinda like Schrodinger’s Stockman …

Thank you, I stand corrected … and for my own edification - as I understand it, stockmans are serpentine and a bit smaller, and cattle knives are straight equal end patterns and generally 4+ inches closed … is that correct? Thanks for the update on a lovely cattle knife. I don't think they started making stockmans until slightly later.
Such a cool variety out there on those early 53’s. Yours is a gem. I enjoy when you pull an old GEC friend out of the archives. The knife nerd in me always enjoys the detail and history. Thanks sir! Thanks, Jon!
Had to go back and find the tube just to verify my memory Lol …
It was 2008 and they called it 2nd Cut Stag - the “unserialized” variant is not listed in their production numbers, (they documented 24 2nd Cut Burnt Stag pieces, serialized, as a ‘Factory Test Production Run’ and generally those state that on the blade etch - mine does not).
If I recall my conversation with Christine Tucker correctly, there were only a handful made this way (I think she said 7 or 8) - I have seen a couple others here on BF.
This is one of the few I still have that came with the “53 Cuban” cigar band sticker around the wax paper …
