Some images in the links are not work safe (not Coop's images, but they're there). -Cougar :{)

Thanks to Marcus (bullet101) for the heads-up. He spotted this post on a German forum and alerted me to the fact that my images were posted all with my credit line overwritten.

Actually I would have been flattered to have seen the images, and even let them be used for free, and it would have been good for my clients and myself. It's still good exposure for the makers I have represented. Stealing my credit line is the crime I am peaved about. :barf:

I followed the website and found a TON of my images pilfered:

http://erosport.ru/2006/05/29/holodnoe_oruzhie2.html

In the end it is my fault. I host all my online photos at Fototime, and I had not made the folder 'private'. If you are clever enough and search in Fototime, you can find them all. Apparently, that's what happened. I will make the change now...

Not that a Russian site makes any impact at all in my selling or business, but it's the 'principle'. And so this is a 'Bad' post for this forum.

Thanks for the link Coop. Great pics , some that I think have missed the Forums here. They are obviously Coop Photos and I think any serious collector will know the author.

Apparently the Russians are a wee bit shy of ethics and photographers of your caliber, Jim. The very least they could do is give credit where credit is due. I can understand that they appreciate the master's work, who would not?

what is also pathetic is the way they tried to match the font and color (piss-poor attempt at it, too)
I don't suppose there is any way to make them stop?

severtecher is exactly right. Those pics have Coop stamped on them in a way that no thief will be able to remove.

This guy definately desrves the "bad" label. And a few other things as well.

I posted a couple of notes in english on his site about my being pissed at the credit, but the images being allowed.

I got an email in Russian this morning with this line:

Сегодня поставлю Ваши копирайты

I Googled 'russian translation' and went to a Russian-to-English site. Paste in the text and it says: Today I shall put your copyrights

Maybe there is a shred of decency in this. Stay posted.

HOLY SH*T! When I started reading this post I figured they "borrowed" one or two of your images - but when I went to that site I realized there's an entire "portfolio" there! That certainly didn't happen by accident, that's THEFT - end of discussion.

"In the end it is my fault"

No it's not. If someone wants to steal something of yours - images, cars, jewelry, etc - they will find a way to do it. No conscience is the key, not the means.

As others have said, your "signature" is on those images, clear as daylight. I hope this scum corrects their "error in judgement" quickly.

They are magnificient photos, and that's why Coop and only Coop must be given credit for them.

They are the most stunning knife photos I have ever seen!!

Time for a road trip if they don't fix it!!!!

Seems like this type of stealing is rampant these days.

So far, I don't see any copyright on your photos, but in any case, permission should be requested and THEN granted before any photos, text or property is "borrowed".

Go get 'um, Coop!

Take care, Neil

I inserted a warning because some people read this forum at work, and we don't want the wrong person looking over their shoulder and seeing the banner ads at those websites.

I hope they can see reason, and I hope others who see this thread will realize it's not cool to steal someone else's work. Overwriting a copyright proves intent to steal beyond all possible doubt.

...In my haste I hadn't even thought of that.

Thanks for the compliments and support. At least the guy has good taste. ;)

Coop,

Is he using your file, linking to your server? If the answer is yes, and if you don't get satisfaction, then consider dealing with the situation by changing the pictures. You can re-upload different pictures, so that they are displaying pictures that say

THESE PICTURES ARE STOLEN BY EROSPORT.RU

or some such. You can even be creative, in making pictures that they would find embarrassing to display. Perhaps the fine photochppers in Whine and Cheese would be kind enough to loan you a few good Marty photochops if you ask?

Evolute,

Good comeback, but he copied and hosts them from his own site. Can't do it. He edited the images one by one. Not something I can change now.

We'll see....

Coop, what about subtly watermarking your images with your web address? Or would it look too ugly / impair the quality of the image?

Ticket agent: "Where would you like to go?"

Coop & Ira: "Moscow, please!"

Ticket Agent: "Fine. Will there be any luggage?"

Ira & Coop. "No. Just these 2x4's and a tub of grease....!"

;)

Yes, I could add a Fototime watermark to them. Problem is ALL of my images would have them, all that are posted here as well. Yeah, it would work, but the watermark compromises the visual. My sig line is included on every photo, as long as you don't overwrite them!

Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath (or waste e-mails) waiting for any of those Russian webmasters to see the error of their ways when it comes to copyright isues. Clearly they took someone else's pictures and posted them on their own sites without getting permission.

Besides, let us not kid ourselves. No offense to the Russian people, and I mean no generalization when I say this, but in a nation where public and political corruption are as rampant as they are in Russia, and way bigger and more grave things go unnoticed every day--very few people are likely to care about violating some copyright.

I second the idea of changing the pictures to something indicative of theft, provided that the thieves are linking from your website, and if they are not, making sure that they don't do it in the future.

Good luck to you. :)

Coop, I'm not going to tell you not to sweat it, but your signature is all over your work, not just your name in the corner. They say that certain makers knives have Face where you can recognize the makers work from across the room. Your work has Face and I'm sure I as well as many of your fans could spot your photos from across a room, or in this case across the pond.

Damn EuroTrash...:barf:

Ok, looks like this fellow has sent us a note. I thank him for coming in here, but...

Here is the english translation:

Bljat all over again to read it is necessary, and then already branches about theft to create.

Huh???
