Of course, that means he will have to have more ethics in how he handles the removal than he did when he covered up the Image - ShapByCoop.com on the images in the first place.

As I understand this is personal website and the owner taking pictures he found on Internet and posts them on his website - kind of image blog, and I am pretty sure he just do not know about all this ethical thing.

Do not expect too much ethic from Russians - if you will go throug what every regular Russian went lately I am not sure you'll keep your ethic with you, especially when you need to survive in Urban enviroment under collapsed superpower. However it is clear that Spundex did not mean any harm and little abset with this acuzation, of course he should not put his label on Coor's pictures overwriting original. I am sure he willing to follow proper Internet ethic, but need to learn it, first.

I bet Spundex first time meat owner of the pictures he post and as I understand perfectly willing to sutisfy Coop.

Thanks, Vassili.

It seems that with all intellectual property today - music, videos, Coop's pictures - the technology for protecting this stuff has not yet caught up with the technology for thieving it. Hopefully it will soon enough.

Wish I could be more helpful here; just don't have the technical know-how on how to stop this kind of thing...

but perhaps someone else does

Gentlebeings, Bladeforums is not the place to express your prejudices about groups of people. We are talking about one website owner here, not about an entire nation or continent full of people.

Coop, I vote for a ticket to Russia, with the 2x4's and NO grease. :mad:

Lousy rip offs. :thumbdn:

I need a ticket too...I have my clown suit ready... I have been practicing singing
" We are going to the zoo today we are going to the zoo"

I will pick up a Russian Mosin Signant sniper rifle at a black market dealer upon arrival in country..:D

I just check pictures - they still have "Eurosport.Ru" logo...
So it seems that Spundex does not stand for his word.

Thanks, Vassili.

Coop - I know it's "too late" for this tip now....but maybe for future pic-posting...

There are simple javascripts that can "right-click-protect" your images.

You can also have your html appear "scrambled" when someone tries to view the source or save your page.

It is a pain at first, but will offer pretty darn good protection.

I don't like the watermark idea either. Either it compromises the photo, or it can still be photo-shopped out.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it's out there (on top of protecting your pic folder, etc.)

Now that I think of it...there are also scripts that gives your image files random names (or, if prefered, the same name for each image) to help avoid fraudulent copying.

I'd go and find the scripts for you...but frankly, I'm kinda tired from a long day at the grinder preparing for Blade.

Hope to see you there!

Daniel,
Coop already has right-click protection via code but no obfuscated html (yet:))

nozh2002,
it's erosport not eurosport - we don't give out stars on the EU Flag to just anybody. We only let you Ruskies sing in the Eurovison contest, because your chicks have nice legs.

Here is the Java script (unfortunately the page can be saved just using save as..)...

<SCRIPT language=JavaScript1.1>
<!-- Begin
function right(e) {
if (navigator.appName == 'Netscape' &&
(e.which == 3 || e.which == 2))
return false;
else if (navigator.appName == 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' &&
(event.button == 2 || event.button == 3)) {
alert("ENTER the text you want - when the right mouse button is hit");
return false;
}
return true;
}
document.onmousedown=right;
document.onmouseup=right;

if (document.layers) window.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
if (document.layers) window.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEUP);
window.onmousedown=right;
window.onmouseup=right;
// End -->
</SCRIPT>

Yep, you just save the page, then edit it.
There are embedded watermarks that don't compromise picture quality.
I forget who offers it, as I don't post any pictures worth a damn anyway...

Disabling right-click only annoys legitimate users; it doesn't even slow the image thieves. It only takes a couple of seconds to do a screen capture.

Take a look at the background to the knife pictures at places like www.1stopknifeshop.com It's instantly recognizable and getting rid of it would be more work than taking a picture yourself.

It may be the A.D.D. in me, but I agree with Cougar. The right-click crap annoys the heck out of me.

I typically do massive tabbed browsing. If I see a bunch of thumbnails I would like to look at, links I want to visit, etc, I click them with my middle mouse button to get a tab. On a page with this code, or the d*** pop-up java windows, I get a bunch of blank tabs and not what I wanted. Generally I bag the website, remove it from my bookmarks, and don't visit or recommend it.

Blowing steam here, but why do web page designers feel they need to control how I view the info. I am not them, I want to view it in a way that fits my needs, not theirs. What's more, there is no protection to any of it. It is just a feel good for the designer, but if I want the image, it is easy to get. Heck in a couple of minutes in perl, I can have an entire site fetched to my hard drive, images and all. If they are displayed, then they are transmitted, and once transmitted they are easy to grab if wanted.
