STOLEN KNIVES from RDU AIRPORT on 03/04/14

Again this is second hand info but it sounds like they busted the guy doing the same thing again but to somebody else.
Glad they nailed the sob. Glad they got almost all their knives back.
Now I can say cheers. Cheers

It would indeed be nice if the OP would post what actually happened... glad the stuff was recovered, must be almost a miracle!

This reminds me of what I used to hear from Postal Inspectors. It's hard to catch a thief the first time, it gets easier the next time, and thieves are greedy. Once they get away with it, they can't resist trying again.

That's amazing they were able to recovery nearly all of them. :thumb up:

I had visions of beautiful customs being traded for a bundle of dope or something else stupid.

Kudos to the police!

147 of 150 knives recovered is pretty good, hopefully they where not to badly damaged. I would love to hear the actual story

There was a big baggage theft bust at LAX, if its an organized ring, maybe it will reach to Raleigh as well. Maybe.

Good to know all but 3 have been recovered.

The only airport I EVER have issues with in regard to knives is Raleigh. TSA accused me 3 times of having a gun in my baggage this year because when I fly with knives I keep them in a locked otterbox. I had a Spyderco Swick, Tenacious, and a Leatherman MUT with me. TSA there is so paranoid and......well.....stupid...that they thought my leatherman was a pistol because the hook for the hammer looked like a (their words) "gun handle"

Ruined a perfectly good meal at 42nd Street Oyster Bar.

Another year TSA cut the locks off my bag to inspect the contents, I felt lucky they didn't take the Busse Ergo Badger I was traveling with.

That place is a nightmare for knives, and they wonder why I travel with things stashed and locked. I've never flew out of that airport without my bags getting searched.

Hope the other 3 pop up soon

It's fantastic that the knives were found and returned, sounds like some police officers did a great job. If that would happen to more baggage thieves, maybe less stuff would get stolen at airports.

When I see stories of all the theft and corruption of the TSA bully-dogs, it makes me wonder how much "safety" they're really providing.

I've flown out of Raleigh a few times and once with a firearm. It wasn't a hassle and in fact my pelican case was hand delivered to me (not put on the conveyor at all) both when I got to my destination and when I got back. I give credit to Southwest for making that happen. I've heard of photographers who purposefully travel with a track starting gun so that they have to go through the declaration process and can lock their luggage thereby protecting their expensive equipment. It might not be a bad idea to do the same in this type of situation. Just remember that when you approach the counter to check your gun you say "I'd like to check a firearm" and not "I have a gun".
