Stonewashed Cryo

Looks great. Thanks for the explanation - you make it sound so easy.
I'm tempted to stonewash something - not sure if I'll start with my brand-new Cryo, or my already beat-up Leek.
First, I'll see if any of my local hardware stores carry replacement fasteners in black or stainless.

Great post! Thanks for posting the whole process. Gives me something to think about....

What is this "paper trick" you speak of? I am having trouble getting my Rat 1 to center. Nice job on the cryo by the way.

You loosen the screws and pivot screw then use folded paper in between the blade and the scale to push the blade over to the lock side. Push it past center. Then tighten the handle screws. Last tighten the pivot screw all the way tight. Remove the paper wedge. Now loosen the pivot screw and center the blade.

I have a suggestion as to what to do about the hardware. Instead of replacing it try stripping the black off and heat anodize them. The way I did it was , sanded off the black coating with fine sandpaper so you don't scratch it then held the screws in a flame (I used my stove) until red hot then dip it in water.I got a nice goldish bronse color but you can get other colors like bluish purples.

I just bought all the stuff to do this today. I'm going to try it out on my cryo. If it turns out good, I might do it to my sage 2 as well.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot!

One piece of advice. When doing it for the first time check your handles frequently - stop the dryer and check your handles every 15 minutes. That way you are less likely to go overboard. I think it IS possible to have too much stonewashing on your handles to the point where they look beat up. Of course, if you do go too far you can always start over. Just "erase" the stonewashing with scotch-brite pads and try again!

I'm going to try this with a CRKT Drifter I hope in comes out looking great I paid $8 bucks for it I hope it come out looking like yours. That's sweet .

That turned out fantastic!

I think I'll do this to my Cryo. But I am going to stonewash the blade, as well..

So after seeing how you stonewashed your Cryo, I gave stone washing a shot with my Crkt Drifter.

What's the "paper trick" you used to center the blade. Mine is off just a little and I'm a picky bastard.
