Spiral

Spiral's place fills both needs; ready defense and artistic display. And that's almost a one of a kind decore on a planet with billions of people. Think of that. All the repetition, yet very very few places have a Wall O Khuks. (or ever Walls of Khuks)

<<<<<<<C.S. Graves: If you saw my place, you'd understand! :-<>>>>>

I know a guy who is a real packrat. His backyard is full of stuff piled high. You can't see over it and must walk through the corridors exactly as if you were navigating a English Hedge Garden set up as a maze.

If I even had the space to be a packrat... ARRR!

Maybe I can just get rid of my TV set and just look at blades on the wall instead. ;-)

Thankyou Munk! :)

Mr.Graves , whats on the wall above the tv? :D

After putting my kuks on the wall I find I have more room evrywhere else! ;)

I am having a hard time looking at this thread. I can't dwell too long on the wonderful collection photos - overwhelming envy starts to raise its ugly head. :)

I like the wall-of-khukuris idea, although it would be a hard sell in my house. My collection photo would likely include my freshly mounted head on the wall, smack in the middle of all the blades. ;)

I take it you live with a fee-male?

BTW, on your question of how one keeps track of sheath/blade matches. I put a 3"X5" card through the belt loops or frog loops with all the info pertaining to the khuk that goes in it.One day I am thinking of attaching a small tag to khuk/knife with a matching one on the sheath. This way my lady could match them up for sale in case of my untimely demise. Sounds morbid, but it is something to plan for if they are stored apart from one another.:o

Great pics and ideas! I have a closet storage rack and one I copied from Steve, and another small one with 1" dowels parallel to each other that a bunch of small knives can hang in. A display case and old gun cabinet for the long stuff, but that is not very well organized at all.

WRT to the 3X5 cards, what I do is use a printing label maker and print a small label and put it on the back of each scabbard, not the frog, the same place in each knife. The code might read B5, meaning it is the 5th knife on my spreadsheet sorted by length / weight that starts with "B".

In case she needs to, my wife can look up the code on the spreadsheet and see the model of the knife, mfr, kami, length/weight, scabbard/sheath type, bolster type, handle type and approx. current value. I used to track what I paid as well, but gave that up as prices fluctuated too much on these and that doesn't really indicate what they might be worth today. I'm starting to add a column that shows the purchase date (cross-referenced against old paypal receipts), which could also be used to help determine value if needed.

In this case: B5 - Himalayan Imports - 14" - 20 oz. - Bura Dui Chirra - Bura - Elk Antler - Std. Bolster - Black Buffalo Hide - 9/24/05- $$$.00 - 21 The last number is the number in the collection.

I keep the spreadsheet in a folder on my desktop called "Read Me First" that also has instructions on how to log into this and other forums, and who to contact on each forum. I gave her the name of 5 guys here who could help with any selling, and I know for a fact that she would probably end up getting _more_ than many of them were worth because of the character of those gentlemen. (I guess I should have asked those folks first but knowing them figured they would be willing to assist!)

Now I just need to do something similar for all the non-kukri stuff I have collected, but like most of you a random collection of pocket knives and fixed blade knives kind of ebbs and flows. (I was looking for an old hunting knife the other day and after a half-hour remembered I gave it away to a young relative several years ago! Getting senile...)

Norm

That's a great system you have there Norm. I keep meaning to come up with a display for them as well as cataloging them and my swords. So far all I have is a list of my HI with size, weight and handle material.

Since I often forget what size and weight many of my kukris are, this list comes in handy when ever I am talking about any of mine.

Amazing collection Steve and Spiral.

wow very interesting norm... may have to copy that system you got there :D
its sounds much easier for the other half to identify khuks...... much easier than my method  i know this may sound sick and cruel :foot:

ive been running drills with my fiance... i line them up in a row and ask her to name the khuk i point to...
i go from left to right first and when she gets one wrong i'll tell her what it is and start all over...
(ummm, you dont want to know how many times we have to start over... i will leave that to your imagination)
after she gets them all right i then point at random ones for her to identify and we are finished for the day :)

funniest moment is when she identified the kagas katne as genghis khan  :D hilarious!!!

tying her down to a chair and forcing her to identify khuks finally paid off though...
without telling me, she created an account with BF (typikal930) just to go on the HI forum
SHE ACTUALLY PEEKED AT TODAYS DOTD!!! and came home telling me about the chit bowie and bolo late this evening  it was freaken crazy!!!
she made it to the thread auntie yangdu posted before i did!!! :grumpy:

You better watch out, you may have inadvertently infected an otherwise normal person with HIKV, and could have created another KHUK SHARK! whom, it sounds like, can beat you to the DOTD. Good thing about this is the fact that the khuks would be going to the same address.

Unfortunately, my collection is small enough to keep them on display on my large dresser's top. I really need to figure something else out, though. My knives are starting to overlap there, and I just got that friggin' huge claymore. Add to that knives that I'll undoubtedly be getting this Christmas, and I really really need more storage room. I've been thinking of moving a couple paintings to make room for a dowel rack in my room. On the wall I have in mind, there are two studs. Do you think that's enough to support some custom dowel rack/ sword stand getup?
