Storm Cloud is Out!

Fairly expensive, but if the heat treat on their 20CV is good, I guess it will be close to many other manufacturer’s M390 performance wise.

I like the Cold Steel thumb plate (have one on my Rajah III) and the CF looks good (even it is only CF OVER G10).

In any case, I’ll likely grab one if it is less than $150 and the reviews are positive.

This looks slick! Nice neutral handle shape, looks to have at least 4" of grippable area (maybe even more like 4 1/8"), thin handle (0.43") but chamfered edges should keep it comfortable, and under 4 oz. with a legal-lots-of-places 3.5" blade. I'm intrigued.

Among other things it looks like an interesting alternative to something like an Emerson CQC-7 -- lighter by an ounce, and with premium steel, for less.

In any case, I’ll likely grab one if it is less than $150 and the reviews are positive.

It's showing as $167 at Blade HQ; I assume other retailers have a similar price.

It looks to me like an ideal EDC. Thin blade stock. High performance steel. Nice point. Thin, smooth scales. Lightweight. Classy.
It could be an XL but then it would be a completely different animal. And very expensive.

My feelings exactly. Cold Steel seems to have turned their backs on new XL folders though.

Its probably best right now money wise. I don't know about you guys but my collection of XL Knives is getting big enough to maybe have to sell some to buy more. On the other hand how cool would it be to carry a different XL for EDC every day of the month. Life sure throws some tough decisions at ya.

Well I'm calling out Italy on this. In whichever factory these are made.
Because I just received a Night Force that has a similar gap between scales and lockbar. I took off the non-clip scale, then put it back on and what I saw was that the scales are flush until the pivot is tightened. It pulls them apart slightly.
Anyway, the knife still seems well made and I like it. It's extremely smooth. Zero bladeplay. I got it at a big discount. My guess is that everyone will get a chance to get a Night Force at a big discount because they seem to be a sluggish seller. Unless they weren't made in very large quantities.
But I think Cold Steel needs to step up their game if they want to sell high dollar knives. High dollar = high expectations.

I still wonder who CS is using in Italy. As far as I know, they never answered on the Italian factory for the 4max. Obviously it is not "Italy" (nor did you imply that), but rather whichever maker in Italy CS is using. But whichever, it does not help CS to have quality issues. Having said that, I will reserve judgement until I get my SC, which should be early this week. I'm also mostly concerned with function (safe, smooth operation, no blade play in open or closed positions, solid lockup that releases on command (not all triad locks do :( ), clean grinds, good heat treat, you know, the whole package :)

I like geometry on storm cloud, this blade looks like it can be sharpened to straight razor kind of sharpness.

Got mine today. Slight gap between scales and lockbar, otherwise all good. I think I can live with the gap as long as everything stays tight. Very smooth action and even smoother scales - I might need to rough it up a little, such a glass-like finish. I love the blade shape and hope it holds an edge the way a good HT 20CV should. If so, I think it will be worth the price. I too like my XLs when I am in an XL environment and need an XL job done, but this one will actually get pocket time as an edc cuz, it, uh, fits very well in my pocket!

Blade has zero play in any direction. Also has a slight gap in the liners. Will be an easy fix. Very simialr to my edc, the american lawman. As per the video, the "wear" at the tip seems intentional. Maybe slightly convexed? Overall i absoultely love it. Very light. Very natural. Very classy. Very deady.
