I think that was the friction folder they had. Is it only ground on one side?

Yup. NOS blades from the 1930s, found by Theirs Issard and put into friction folders. Ground on both sides. Savignat-Grimaud (?) blades. Some were made into slipjoints with horn handles and fancy-filed backsprings. Knives of France still has some of those.
