Hello. I have been trying to do my research on this knife, the Satin Jack, and I am trying to figure out what the difference is between the straight handled one and the other kind. I don't even know what the other kind is, maybe more of a curved handle? Please fill me in. I think it is the straight handled one that everyone says is better, but why? And, where can i find one? I really want a black handled straight handled(i think!) satin jack with satin finish. It seems to be the knife of my dreams (and, obviously many of yours). thanks for your patience.

The second is called the Satin Jack Tactical or SJTac. It is so named because the handle form is called the Tactical handle, and it is also found on the BATAC (Badger Attack Tac), and some other knives.

People like the original SJ because it has the Gen 3 or "Straight Handle," which many think is much more ergonomical. It is also thinner from top to bottom with more belly to it.

The knife you're looking for sounds like the SJLE (limited edition), and is VERY hard to find and VERY expensive to purchase. Post something up in the WTB section and you may get a bite, but expect to look long and hard for it.

Regards,

Jason

No comparison:) THe top one wins:cool::thumbup:

Personally, I LIKE the TAC handle. It works very well for me.

The SJTAC is my favorite knife. If you get one, you will not be disappointed.

Those straight handle knives are waaaaaaay overrated. The tac handle sj is better and cheaper.

I ssay buy the sjtac and give it a try, if you dont like it sell it and go for the overrated overpriced straight handle version.

And yes, i have owned both and sold the shsj and kept the sjtac.

yeah, but thats cause you didnt use it:p

and if you did..........you werent doing it right;):D

and if I am not mistaken the SJ proto was ground by Jerry too:)

Straight-handle over the Tac hands down for hard use especially when choking up on the blade and using the choil. Just my opinion.

I was just waiting to see who would be the first to say this. Yea, I'm scared of my own shadow. :o

Seriously, I agree 150%!!! I too have had both, and in a couple different flavors of each. One of my SHSJs was satin with black papermicarta handles. They honestly did not do it for me and I sold them, all of them.

Then I also had a SJTAC, the overrun with the serrations on the spine at the tip. I traded it away and immediately regretted it . Forutnately, I was able to locate another, which now won't be going anywhere. As for how thick or thin it is, this is a skinny one. I would very confidently put it up againt ANY SHSJ in a side by side test. :D

They are very different, and I like them both. The SJTAC is a very underrated knife IMO and the SHSJ is sweet and fast. They share the same name and blade length, but other than that are totally different beasts.:D

I like the Straight Handle.
I like the SHSJ more than any of the forementioned handles...:D

seriously, tho', I like the hand filling properties of the TAC, but it makes the TAC-handled knives more bulky, too.
I just love the clean - absolutey "basic"- form and feel of the SHSJ.
It feels and looks as a simple tool, and it's sleek and light.
Saying this I would get a TAC SJ, as it seems to me more usable blade than a......

BATAC.
:p

WHICH TWO?!
:D

Honestly, I spent a lot of time and money hunting down an ABA and turning it into an LE with a satin finish and snake slabs, and I didn't really feel it. I tried and tried to like the damned thing, but ultimately my SHBA feels MUCH better in hand than the Gen III handles did. Oh well...to each his own.

MAN Lee has a lot of BP/Satin!
