Well I got a PT and it arrived with some problems. The blade was very offcentered and it would barely open, I mean I have handled and owned a lot of knives but this thing was a thumb killer.

So I send it in and after a while passes I start to worry if they recieved it. So I start emailing and calling and get no responses to emails or phone messages. Then finaly I get a response saying they have my knife and I have to pay for $15 when it's ready, so I respond asking if they take CCs and what the status of the knife is, well again back to the no responses. So after a bunch more attempts to contact them I gave up.

Well at the 2 1/2 month mark I email saying what the heck is going in a angry email and I get a message saying they got it and they're almost done and they're not going to charge me return shipping, so I say ok is the blade centered and sharpened etc and he says oh yeah. Well I get the knife back and the blade is uncentered, lock sticks very badly, there's wiggle and half of it is dull not to mention they didn't fix the exposed blade tip that cut STR's hand when he was adding a lowrider clip.

So needless to say I will never buy another Strider as long as I live. No QC and CS that added insult to injury. Never again.

Sorry about this. I've had a DGG SMF and that one was great, blade centered, no bladeplay. Seems it is lottery to buy Strider on the net, without handling it first.

Wow, that's pretty bad. I currently have an SnG on it's way back from Strider.

I sent it in because in the locked position, it had vertical play with just light finger pressure on the spine. The lockbar would move towards the open position with the play! :thumbdn:

I would be pissed as hell if it didn't come back repaired as I consider that a defective knife.

Sorry about your experience.

I have an RCC Tad Gear with an all ti frame(1 of 200). I got the knife in a

trade on BF.

The lockbar moved back and forth on the tang when I held the handle in

one hand and the blade in the other. I fixed the lockbar tension...Ive done

it a few times.

I definately Did Not Want To Send It Back To Strider. The knife is good to

go and I didnt have to wait and wait for Striders poor cs and service.

Interesting business model if you ask me. With so many negative comments on Strider knives on the net, they keep selling many knives for seemingly outrageous prices. And Mick & co's occasionally poor services and inconsistent quality control are justified by a horde of Strider-fanatics. And I am sure they will pop up in this thread like muslim fundamentalists in the remote mountains of Afghanistan.

As an ex-convict that lied about his 'military background', Mick Strider is doing pretty well.

In one thread a very PRO-Strider user stated you have about a 50% chance of getting a good (this is correctly made with no initial problems) Strider.

If I'm spending $500+ dollars for a knife, I really think I deserve a better than 50% chance of getting a good one.

Isn't a 50% chance of getting a good knife versus a defective knife the same as saying "hit or miss"?

There is no doubt in my mind the 50% of good Strider knives are hard core, well-built tools but I wonder sometimes why someone would plop down $400+ to buy a knife whose quality will be "hit or miss"?????

I try to buy my Striders in person, but when I can't I use Neil at TNK. He will take his time to cull through the Striders, thus you will get a got one every time from him.

Plus Neil is a great guy to support

Did you have STR mod the clip before or after you sent it to Strider ? Was the tip modded before or after you got it back from Strider ?

the tip of the blade is exposed( which I didn't notice at first but STR did and he ground it down so it's at least safe to carry)

Just curious why now a month later , you are making this post ?

So poor fit and finish is the norm, pick one yourself if you can find a good one. But Internet buyers must rely on the the Dealer to cull the defects yet the Company still charges the same price and if a problem arises they offer poor CS.

Also, how many times have we heard "Send it in dude and Josh will make it right no problem". :thumbdn:

I had some problems with an SnG last year and I flipped it after it came back from the spa (which took almost 2 months to get back).

I've been seeing a lot of Strider videos on youtube (creativeoutlethobbi and nycdave212) and this made me crave another Strider. I decided to give the SnG a chance again and ordered one from Knifeart. Well, it had lockup problems again. It had up/down bladeplay because the lockbar was not engaging firmly. I sent it in to Strider and they received it on 3/10. I got notice on 3/22 that they shipped it via FedEx.

The main thing is that this knife is absolutely perfect now and the turnaround time was very good on Strider's part. Shipping it back within 10 business days is great IMO. A little peeved about having QC problems two times in a row though.

While you're at it post the links to where you talk about getting a bunch of Striders that arrived perfect(was it 10 or 15? I forget.)but neglect to mention you're friends with Mick and some of them were even sent to you(from Mick and Josh at Strider) as personal gifts. Making it seem that you went through the regular channels and recieved these perfect knives rather than getting them hand picked.

He put on the clip after it came back. He had the decency to make the knife safe for free.

I'm posting this because fan boys were complaining of me talking about it in Strider threads so I gave the incident it's own thread just like I would if anybody else in the knife community screwed me over like they did.

I understand you're friends with the people at Strider but come on. People aren't making these things up. I'm also not saying my experience is the definitive Strider experience but a lot of people do truly have problems with Strider's QC and CS.

Sounds about right :o

Fanboys, will say they have never had a "bad" one, or their Strider folders have no wiggle..... :jerkit:

I do like my SnG, but it does have a tad side to side play.... Yes even if you tighen the pivot so tight it will not open, it still has a little side to side... I live with it because the whole package just works so well.

Did your SnG have bladeplay when it was new?

just to clarify for you , a few were gifts ( 3 were to my kids , not me and they were fixed blades and one was for my wife ) , all the folders & fixed blades I own except for one (bro knife) I bought on for sale forums, bought from friends , from Tad Gear , etc , just like everyone else.

I ain't denying you had problems , just saying I haven't.

My SnG was probably one of the better ones when I got it. Maybe I got lucky. I've spent a bit of time fiddling with the tightness of the pivot until I managed to get it where it's reasonably easy to open yet has a minimum of blade play. It had always had a small amount of blade play. I've got it to the point now where, if I hold the lock bar in, the play disappears. I think that, if I ground a small amount off the bar, it would engage better and eliminate most of the remaining play. I probably won't bother though because it doesn't concern me that much.

Apart from that, I use it when I'm working around the property and sometimes it gets abused a little and it's held up very well.

Is this quality control problem still going on? Let's take this thread to the top, I really want to know more what you guys have to say. I'm planning to buy a strider folder and really want an update to this "quality control" problem.

I've been reading about these concerns for a long time, so yes I think we are safe to say nothing has changed and that's the common report.
So you may want to buy that new knife in person. Or from a dealer that will examine it (I've had them do it while on the phone with me) and check everything you ask them to.
