This poll is for members who own or have owned strider folders. The question is simple. Did they have or develop blade play? No need for bashers or fanboys. I would like this to be a relatively unbiased poll. Just a yes or no, and how many in each category. Please mention if it was vertical or horizontal play, and old or new lock face if you know.

I have owned one, a pt, and it did have vertical and side to side blade play.

I have owned a SJ-75 and 2 PT's. The SJ did have some blade play but after sending it in it was perfect. The two PT's had no play at all, but I was picking through a selection at Plaza Cutlery and I did find a couple that had major play.

I have had 4 SnG's that were dead-on.
I have heard that the older Striders "developed" blade play.

My sng has slight blade play and it is brand new, sending it back now to get it fixed. I voted "all" but this is the only Strider I have owned.

Bladeplay is what prevented my purchase.

My question is, why would a shop owner not have superb models for display handling??? Nearly all of them wiggled!

I didnt vote because I couldnt pull the trigger on one.

I have had
2 SMF's
1 Sj75
6 SnG's that number is now down to 3
2 PT's
None of these knives had any play at all

HJ- Those wobbly Striders never should have left the shop AND the dealer needed to return them stating why.

Well its not good for business if a customer walks in and gets disappointed when most other brands didnt wiggle.

serious, if they had no play I would own at least 3 by now.

exactly what causes bladeplay and how can it be fixed? Im fixing for one but cant.

hanoverfiste, your avatar brings me much memories as a teen. Love that movie.

I obtained one as part of a trade several years ago. It had play. I sold it.

I have owned
3 PTs
7 SnGs
1 SJ75s
3 SMFs
The Sj had to go back for lock fail.
One Pt had to back for major Lock Rock and lock would fail.
The others where rock solid.
When I did have a problem with them, Strider made them good as new with no problem.

Any frame lock knife can develop play including Striders.

I have owned several Strider folders and they did not develop any play.

My current (& Fav out if 6 so far) w new lock geometry developed up/down play really really quickly. It was obvious that there was nowhere near enough tension on the lock bar...as in not bent over far enough. I bent it over around 1/16" and it has been fine for over a year now. It actually has good or better action, feel, sound and lock up as any of the rest of my knives.

It doesn't bother me at all that I had to adjust it. It's definitely an excellent knife!

I bought a PT-CC a couple months ago new from a dealer & it surprisingly also has developed similar play. If I could take it apart I could/would fix it but it's got the frikkin 3-hole
Pivot screw/pin. Part of me wants it to be "perfect" and part of me realizes that it is still a very nice knife and I would bet that the lock will not fail. I will likely get a tool and fix it but at least for now if I play with it a bunch the lock face is not being worn away.

All in all I've had around 12 Strider folders and the majority have been just fine. I have another DGG SnG on its way to me tomorrow. (Obviously I think they're great knives!) I'll keep you posted.

I have read about people having a lot of issues with strider. Why is this? For as much as you pay it should be flawless. It sounds like a gamble once you order one. I'll stick with my
Sebenza :-)

I don't own any right now. However, The four that I have owned did not have any blade play (3 PT's and one sng).

I recently got an sng that developed a bit of blade play after a short period of light use. I used a 5.00 bicycle chain tool from the internet to adjust the pivot screw and the lockup has been tight ever since.

I have :
2 smf
1 Sng
1 baby Huey

One of my smfs has developed blade play twice. Had to send it in twice. I hope that is the last time. Looks like they ground down some of the handle where the lock bar hits the G10 and titanium to allow more of the lock to engage. As long as the lockup is solid I'm good.
