Looks like they ground down some of the handle where the lock bar hits the G10 and titanium to allow more of the lock to engage. As long as the lockup is solid I'm good.

Well, that is certainly an interesting way to "fix" it.

One SMF and one Sng, both rock solid. Purchased a PT, no blade play but sent it back, to small.

I have wanted a tanto SnG for a long time.

I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a knife; then have to worry if it is going to arrive with, or soon develop, blade play.

They sure look cool though.

I had one that had some lt/rt blade wiggle, but no lock-rock. I bought a Monkey-Edge Strider tool, and tightened the pivot a tiny bit, and the blade-play was gone.
Pretty simple...
I have owned perhaps five or six SMFs, the same number of Sng's and SJ's, and four PT's. They are great folders.
Their Customer Service is the FINEST. PERIOD. Oh yeah, sorry, my opinion...

I've had 2 SMF's, 1 SNG and 1 PTCC. None of them have ever developed blade play. I messed with the pivot on my first SMF and it had slight blade play until I tightened the pivot a little more, but that is no fault of the knife or manufacturing. All that I've owned have been perfect.

Strider SNG Lego Tiger Striped - Started with vertical and horizontal blade play. Sent to Strider. Fixed vertical, horizontal still prevalent. After flicking the knife open a few hundred times and using it; horizontal blade play went away. Super tight lock-up now.

Strider SMF DGG Black Coated - No vertical, but there is horizontal. Knife is still in break-in period.

Thanks for all the answers so far guys! It's nice to see some actual numbers on this issue. As the sample size grows the statistics will get more accurate, so keep those votes coming!

People need to specify whether they have the old lock face or the new. Otherwise your stats will be off.

So going by this poll (splitting the 'some of them' category as half yes, half no), roughly one in every four Striders has blade play. I know it's a small-ish sample size but still...

I'm not a blade play, centering etc. nazi, but damn for the price tag I find that pretty ridiculous.

You're right, it's admittedly a pretty sloppy poll. Another issue is people reporting side to side play that would easily be fixed by tightening the pivot. Maybe strider should make it easier for the user to adjust themselves.

Although I do not have a Strider, I am surprised that for a knife of this price about 40% exhibit blade play. You would think that alone would end most interest in these knives.

I'm guessing a lot of that 40% is knives with the old lock face, before Strider redesigned their knives. The newer ones are reportedly much better.

It's the percent of people so far who have experienced issues. Some individuals have several good striders, and some have had one out of several that were bad, so the percentage of knives with play is less than 40%.
This needs a lot more input before the numbers mean anything though.

Locutus if you have suggestions on how to get more accurate numbers I'm all ears. I am no statistician.

Before I say anything, I do not own a strider. Want one, couple factors telling me it's not a good idea.

Ok, so 400 for a knife that it seems about a quarter of responders report blade play. When you give that money to CRK, you get absolute perfection.

Maybe folders aren' that great from strider, but the fixed blades do look awesome, and it's pretty hard to mess up one of those. Suffice it to say, if I do get a strider, it will be hand picked by myself.

I've have/had two PT CC's that had some vertical play - one with the old lock up, one with the new.

However, I've have/had two regular PT's, two SnG's , and two SmF's that were all rock solid.

I should add the play was very minor and doesn't bother me.
