Strider PT

Love my PT and never had an issue with lock up or blade play. It's not as refined as a CRK but still like the PT more. You can always try and then sell it if you have to. If I where to buy a new one today I'd go for the tanto version.

If you can find a used PT that has good lock up, jump on it. Pay less than new and avoid lock up issues PT's seem to have.

My PT's lockbar over-traveled and soon went all the way to G!0 scale. I ended up sending it back to Strider twice, the second time they sent back a new knife (different color). The lockbar didn't travel enough. Rather than send it back a third time, I disassembled the knife and carefully bent the bar in enough and now lockup is great.

The PT is a great knife if you can get one without issues, most of which seem to be with lock up. I love mine and will never trade/sell it but I sure wish I knew then what I know now.

What sort of lockup issues? Can you describe them? Too much/too little/other?

The PT that I couldn't send back was out of lockbar travel, and could be pushed into the G10 side but was in excellent condition otherwise. The other PT had some up and down play. If you wiggled the blade up and down you could see the lockbar moving off the tang. The funny part was, when I sent the knife in it had a centered blade. When I got it back the lockbar issue was fixed, but the blade was offcenter:confused:

That being said the blade being slightly off center never really bothered me much and I had zero issues with the 4 SnGs I owned.

I have the new tanto version and it really is a cool little knife...I just wish I got the standard Lego instead of the CC, I miss having a clip.

Just pulled the trigger on a coyote brown PT with tiger stripe, flamed.

I had originally been looking at a stonewashed blade...not sure how I'm going to like the tiger stripe.

Now I wait, and debate back and forth if I made the right decision, or if I should have saved my money...

I'm thinkin you made the right choice!

Let's hope so...for the same money I could have gotten another CRK, possibly a mnandi, or another small sebenza.

I dunno, I can't see my small seb being replaced as my edc, even if it is heinously boring.

Laughing out loud here - I pulled the trigger on a coyote brown PT with stonewashed blade and the old pivot. :D

Yes...but the Striders are (at least the good ones are) a very different knife with some great design features and great ergos. I did exactly the same math - but even if the Striders are "fully priced" they fill a different niche and they do it well. Good luck to both of us. ;)

Go for it!! I have 3 Striders; an SnG CC ,Ranger green nand stone washed, a regular PT that is Ranger green, and a PT CC Dog Paws, also Ranger green. They are perfect. My PT CC NEVER leaves my pocket.

Post a pic of yours when it comes!

So what happens when your strider needs cleaning?

Whats Striders warranty like?

You could spray it with something light that has a lot of solvents like Rem-Oil...or you could blow it out with an air compressor, then use a "real" oil of some kind...or you could take it apart and give it a real cleaning, but...(1) Strider intentionally makes it hard to do that - you need to use care, and special tools are a good idea for most Striders (you're going to love that new pivot design on the PT and you'll see why I sought out one with the older design  ;) :grumpy: )...(2) [edit - not sure this is actually Strider's current policy - but their website has been down for a couple of days, so can't verify] if you do disassemble the knife and send it back, if they can tell that it was disassembled, they will void your warranty.

My theory with a Strider is to give it a workout for a while after it arrives and make sure it's GTG. If it is, then I'll strip, clean and re-lube, being pretty confident that it will never need Strider warranty service. YMMV.

I specifically bought one with the new pivot, because I was told that it is smoother. So I have to send my knife back to strider for cleaning?

Not as long as you can clean and lube without disassembling the knife (which, to be honest, ought to be easily possible unless you like to play in the sand or mud). Edit - I may be mis-remembering Strider's current warranty/service policy [i.e., disassemble the knife and the warranty is void], and their website has been down for a couple of days, so I am having trouble checking. It may be that they don't care, as long as you get it back together, fully functioning, without damaging anything.

What's their warranty like in general though?

If it breaks send it back to them and they'll fix it, is basically their warranty. Just don't mod. the knife in any way. If you take the knife apart and break something they will charge you to fix it. Strider's don't need lube. They recommend spraying the pivot area with wd40 and canned air.

As stated, don't modify it at all. I believe their warranty's good, but their turn around time can be horrible. I'm sure some will say they had great turn around times, & admittedly, I've never had to find out. However, I have a few friends who did not (One was over 4 months, but he did receive what he believes was a different/new knife).

Interesting about the new pivot & the comments about not taking it apart or the possible warranty voided. I'm not saying it's necessarily a better folder, but I like Sebs because they actually encourage taking it apart.

Personally, of the many Striders I've had (Of them, 3 or 4 SnGs & 3 PTs), the PT seemed to consistently have the best F&F compared to the SnGs.

I like the PT, but found myself carrying my small Seb more, so got rid of them, but they are very good knives.

Enjoy...

This was a snip from a Strider post at USN on their then-new policies.

If your folding knife has been modified we won't fix it so don't send it in

modified= if any tools were used on your knife to change its appearance Your warranty is void
Change the blade grind= void
Polish the screws, blade or titanium=void
Modify the handle=void
File your lock bar=void
Drill any holes in your knife=void
burn up your knife in a fire= VOID
If you strip a screw we will repllace it for a charge
If you break the tip or chip the blade we will fix it no charge
If you take the knife apart and ruin the lock up thier might be a charge
***charges are detirmined on how long it takes us to fix it****
WE WILL NOT SEND OUT OR SELL ANY PARTS

Changing the blade grind?.....Void?? Is changing the blade's profile considered the same as or am I just simple? Please...don't feel obligated to answer the last part of that question.:D
