Strider SNG being overpriced

Glass half full or half empty??
I bought s Spyderco Police with G10 years ago and a friend of mine broke the tip while using it as an ice pick. Guess what? They can't replace the blade so my150$ knife 4 inch blade is now a 3 inch blade (luckily I still have some blade left)
If The blade would have broken in the middle I would have to throw the knife away
Nothing is perfect in life
Btw my perfect sebenza doesn't feel any better or sturdier than my striders, neither is more ergonomic

I have to say....i have five striders (all relatively new) and i dont know what the discontent is about. Maybe i was lucky but everyone of them locks up tight, blades are centered - absolutely zero issues. Actually, an sng is my favorite knife and i do currently own a zaan, sebenza, microtech, spydies, bm, etc. Cant wait to compare the hinderer soon.

Four here, same same. Actually, two of them were genuine bargains. I bought an SMF and an SnG earlier this year when they did the micro-runs in S110V, which were priced the same as their S30V counterparts, which was a steal.

Never had a problem with my SnG. Of course, I've never had a problem with my SMF, GB, PT or fixed blades either. I'm sure if I ever do, the Strider guys will take care of it.

Truth!
I have an oooooold SmF without the hinder/lock and Boss blade, it's still rock solid with 70% lockup,
it's a beast!

I have a smf that is ROCK solid lol. Not to mention I've handled many and have had many pass through my hands all but one has been solid. I will admit you can get a bad one it's a toss up with strider.

It usually cost me like $12 to ship it to them insured with delivery confirmation plus the $15 for them to send it back though it's their fault. So it really costs $27 and a 4 week wait in my case.
its actually more like 13.38$ + 15$; so its more like 28.38$
As far as the time, it is actually more like 16 days and 17 hours (but that is me because they drop packages at 5 PM)
BUT I'm sure you understood the REAL meaning of what I said because you are Elite; and because it took you 11 minutes to actually remember to post something valid for the sake of this conversation
LMFAO

I'm glad you understand my point Big Beautiful Woman.

For those not as keen as BBW. The thread is about Striders and if they're overpriced or not. I think it's good for people to know to basically add $30 as sooner or later a trip to the spa will be needed. It's not if but when the knife will develop up and down blade play. Usually within a year I would say.

See that's the thing that gets me about Striders. Their fans always say that the issues are fixed by Strider, and you can just send it back to them (or mod the lock to get rid of play). I'm all for giving a company a chance to make something right when they mess up, but this is a widespread issue (and they charge significantly more for repair than a lot of other companies). And it's great to repair a knife yourself if you can - if it's a $20 Chinese knife. I guess I'll never understand why some people are willing to put up with issues that would be considered a huge problem and cause the company to be viewed as uncommonly incompetent if the knife cost a tenth of what these cost.

If you've got money to spend on these types of knives and you want to try out an SNG or SMF, go for it. If money is an issue to you these knives are not worth it, at all, if you ask me, from my past experiences. Both, my SNG, and SMF had play that could not be corrected unless you want a two hand opener. In addition, one of the knves, don't recall which had a stop pin fall out. They fixed it, but...

And the stop pin fell out after I read, and doubted, another gentleman claiming his fell out too. I wrote an email to Strider after hearing about it via the thread which was looking bad for them, and Josh (I believe that was his name) responded to the thread. This was when I stood behind Strider. Shortly after this, my Striders stop pin fell out, making me feel like an idiot.

At this point, I don't have much money for higher end knives like these, but if/when I do again, I wont risk trying another Strider, especially at full price. And on a side note, When I was still drinking heavily, I must have left my SNG (tiger-striped)damp with sweat or alcohol, and it rusted badly overnight. Not the type of rust you can clean off either. I ended up having it bead-blasted, and sold/traded it off asap.
Aslo, I had an Atwood/Strider prybaby w/spaner, so it's not like I'm just some moron who doesn't understand how to fix bladeplay on these knives. There was no sweet spot.

I don't doubt other's have perfect Striders, but after putting nearly $1000 into the two I had, I'd not be willing to give them another shot. My SNG was bougt new, my SMF was second hand, if that matters. To me, Buying one of these knives is like rolling the dice. You can say they'll fix any problems, but the knife I sent in for the stop-pin still had play when I got it back.

It's your money, but if it was mine, I'd opt for a 0300 for less and expect less/no problems with it. And as for Sebenzas, I've had two, large regular and small 21, they were perfect. But they're not really comparable knives other than cost.

They are still great knives. I got rid of my SMF dgg in order to buy something that came up quick that I've wanted for a while and are kinda hard to get. That knife was awesome and I'm looking for another now. They are cool knives and the heat treat is awesome. Still overpriced, but not by to much.

If CRK made the SMF and SnG...

Four purchased, four perfect...maybe I should return them so I can get one that's not?

I recently got to handle a bunch of new striders at a huge Strider dealer and they were all just about perfect. They were all rock solid, mostly perfectly centered, and great fit and finish in general. I think if you buy a new Strider now, you will get a great knife with none of the problems Striders had in the past. However the fact of the matter remains that Strider lockup is unique and you ARE going to have a worn out lockbar and blade play somewhere down the line. Sometimes as soon as 4 months like my SNG. Part of the high price tag on Striders goes toward that no questions asked warranty that WILL fix your worn out lockbar, just need to put in some effort to get it sent in and taken care of. I can understand people getting pissed off at having to send in couple month old Striders to get adjusted but I still think they are worth the money because you cant get the look, function, and weight to strength ratio of a Strider anywhere else. Just my 2 cents.

I love my xm18's, but I'm more of a 3.5 of xm24 kinda guy. I started out with a 3.5 xm, and even though I loved the overall design and the fit and finish, I just knew I need something a little bigger. So, I got the 3.5 and the rest is a love story. Until recently I hadn't had either a SnG or a ZT 0551, and I acquired one of each in the last couple months. The ZT 0551, I loved, as much as an XM18 actually. That thing is a tank, and carry's great in the pocket, and fits great in the hand. Couldn't ask for a better knife for the price range. The SnG on the other hand, not my cup of tea. I didn't like it, not one bit honestly. Just seemed like a cheap knife that was really expensive. Maybe I'm just used to the XM's, or maybe I just got my hands on a bad one, who knows. Just my two cents, I'm sure everyone else will have different opinions...

Not me, I'm right behind you bro! You can't hold an XM-18 or XM-24 and ever truly appreciate another folder again. They have the fit & finish of a CRK offering or better, but bigger, tougher and can be deployed quickly. The ergos are off the chart - I can't find another folder that feels that good in the hand. They can pry, slice and stab alongside anything out there. My Spanto blades slice better than a Spyderco Military. With a flipper you not only get a flipper but a solid hand guard.

The XMs are so well thought out it's unreal. No matter the grip there's jimping in all of the right places. Blade play? Forget about it. With a carbidized lock face my EDC (opened and used several times daily for 2 years), there's been no change in lock-up and that includes batoning it, cutting small branches off trees in my orchard, cutting down boxes for easy disposal etc.. Fully lined in ti, not just one side. I can't imagine owning and carrying any other knife for an EDC.

Sure, I have a few others but I used to have about 50 folders and now I'm down to two (gift Benchmades), 3 Spydercos and a couple Cold Steel large Voyagers. I can't pull the trigger on a folder anymore because they just don't stack up - not even interested. What can they do that my XMs can't to as well or better?

I've shopped Strider but the prices are ridiculous for what you get (or maybe what you don't get). I've seen too many pics of their funky lock interfaces here and read thread after thread of complaints about their buggered up locks, blade play, lack of proper customer service to ever consider blowing the money on an SNG. I must admit to being sorely tempted to buy an SMF CC, but then I think "what would I buy this for when I could use that money for a Hinderer?" :D

Sorry, a bit off topic but I hope you guys find that elusive folder that cures the search for the perfect folder. I did but there's no accounting for different tastes.

Well, I have to say one thing... I just bought an SNG, and an RCC, and neither come close to my Umnum. I can't speak from experience with either Strider, but I am not a fan of the G10 handle on the SNG.

But I have to admit, Everytime I pick up the SNG, I start to like it more and more. It is warming up to me, and the knife seems well built. I just wish I could swap the G10 for a titanium slab and I think it would be a no brainer for myself.

If Strider ever swapped out the G10 for titanium then they would lose one of the main benefits of carrying a Strider over any other hard use folder out there, weight. Like there would be absolutely zero reason to carry a Strider over a Hinderer if they weighed the same.

Umm... actually, the S110V SMF was $575. The regular S30V SMF is $475. I still think it was a good deal though. I got one myself. ;)
