Strider SNG Incoming!!!

If you want to look and caress your knife and don't care so much with warranty then you should have sticked with a Sebenza or Hinderer XM18. If you plan to carry and really consider your knife as a tool than a collection, engineering marvel, Forum icon etc then you made a right choice because you could really use and abuse that strider knowing that it purposedly meant for that and if you damage it then send $25 to Strider with your blade, tell them to fix the fuckin' thing and you'll have a working Strider SnG again. Do you carry? Is that coarse g10 on the lego gtg with your pants and hands when clipped in your front pocket? I got SnG DD. hollowground spearpoint so a slicer as well, maybe tip not as hard as flat spearpoint but what the hell if the tip of my hollowground blade broke from prying then i'll just send it back to Strider to be be fixed.

So what's the BS that's going around. I'm guessing it's a perfect knife vs something that's tough as nails but not "perfect"?

Besides what Sonnydaze said, people will tell you they're 'nothing but a sharpened pry bar' and no good for actually cutting anything.

This contributed to me waiting so long to try one which was a mistake on my part, I've got one in my pocket right now!

I actually got a spearpoint myself. I'm tired of having things to have them. This knife is gonna be a trusty friend and business parter! :)

Really nice to know I've made the right call! Can't wait to get this one! Most I've ever spent!

My SNG is in my top 5 all time favorite knives. I don't know why, but mine has a better "hydraulic" feel than any Sebenza I've ever owned, and I've owned 4 of them. It's really smooth. And I mean that in the literal sense, as in not gritty or rough. It doesn't even make the slightest noise while closing. It's not a resistance-free pivot, and nor should it be. Its not a knife you "flick" or whack open. Mine did have a sticky lock for a while, but I fixed that. You'd all cringe if I told you how I did it, but I did, and it worked. Perfect, no play, 50%, consistent lock up every time.

The only criticism I have is the factory edge angle isn't constant. Since the tip is so stout the angle on mine was about 25 degrees per side at the tip, and then it tapered to 15 degrees per side as you move toward the choil. That makes for a constant edge bevel width, which looks nice, but it is not Spyderco Shaprmaker friendly at the tip. The 40 degree stones were hitting the top of the bevel rather than the edge. Point is, put a nice consistent 30 degree edge on it and it'll be cake to touch up.

SnG are nice but are for women if you want a real Strider you need a SMF or a SnG xl. Just kidding though have fun with your new strider and please use it they look better with scratches.

So, if you want the company to fix your knife doing something you shouldn't use a folding knife for, go with a Strider. I can appreciate the no nonsense of that warranty. However, to say that Hinderers and CRKs are only good for caressing and don't have a good warranty, is false. That CRK will do everything a folder should be used for. That Hinderer will do more than what a folder should be used for, just like the Strider. I have never heard of Hinderer turning down warranty service on a knife that was broken in use.. then again, I have never heard of a Hinderer breaking.

All of these comments regarding being able to abuse your Strider makes me wonder if Mick has turned something away LOL! I can hear it now "now come on man, you ran this over with your truck.................SEVERAL TIMES!"...... :)

Except he just changed the warranty.. I was about to pull the trigger on one, but with the new warranty I don't think they're worth the cost. That and the fact that the entire premise of: "I'm a Ranger ninja who killed thousands of people and that's why my knives are awesome," has been proven to be a lie, turned me off a bit. Oh and the fact he's a convicted felon.

I'm sure the knives are excellent, I personally won't support a lying felon that from the posts I've read by him, is a pretty big dick to boot. Especially when companies like Hinderer, Emerson and ZT bend over backwards being nice and trying to make sure the customer is happy. When/if my 300 breaks (doubt it will) maybe I'll look for a cheap SnG..

Yep, if you stick it in a vise and break it with a cheater bar, then tell them it fell apart on it's own, they might charge you something to fix it.

OP, that should be a good knife, congrats.

I thought about one myself,, heck idk what to do know..guess I'll stick with my emerson.. :D

Anyway, as of right now I don't know if they formally changed the warranty, but the idea of charging for intentional damage has been tossed around.

I've always struggled with this myself (not specific to anyone). It's really hard to separate someone from their end product, but I guess you kind of either have to get over it or make the decision you have (neither of them being wrong mind you). For instance I love playing guitar and I love music. A lot guitar manufacturers at the boutique level like Strider or Chris Reeves are complete DB's but their stuff is fantastic.

In the end I think a lot of the true genius comes out of those who don't have great people skills or social for that matter.

I'm very excited about my new knife and can't wait to use it!

The way I look at it, if someone makes an incredible product that I can't get anywhere else, I'm going to buy it even if there may be issues with the way they conduct themselves. That being said, I've never met Mick Strider, I've heard he's quite pleasant in person and at knife shows. Some guys are a little rough around the edges, even Ernest Emerson has his moments where his attitude/mouth slip but he's a fantastic businessman and a very socialable fellow!

Well said.

That's a good point, I'm sure the knife will be awesome, I've heard a lot of good things about them and almost bought one myself. Every time I come close though I have a hard time giving money to him, especially being in law enforcement.

Pics are always nice!

From Mick, "So yes. We are going to start charging for stupid shit. You want to be stupid? Feel free, but its gonna cost you. Especially if you lie about being stupid.

Think of it as a tax.
Our guarantee isn't changing, there is just a new "stupid tax" going into effect."

Which is understandable, but part of buying a Strider is putting it to hard use. I understand not replacing it like in your example of using a cheater bar to snap it, but what if I pry open a door with it? Is that stupid to him? Part of the initial cost is the warranty, at least that's the way I saw it.
