Strider WB First Impressions.

If I can add a little to the discussion on the folder. Just so there is some understanding before everybody gets all critical. The folder was designed as a foldable version of Strider's fixed blades specifically aimed at the law enforcement and military market that are often times forbidden to carry a personally owned fixed blade. It is big (you should have seen the original prototypes-HUGE), and they are meant to be. During discussions with the guys from Strider, one of the things that I particularly wanted to see was that the knife was large enough that even with the blade closed, I could pound things with it, and have my hands protected. This is mainly due to my main work vehicle being a helicopter. I wanted something that could pound a door open in the event of a hard landing, as well as being able to be used as a blunt impact weapon should the need arise. I think the guys have done a great job with it. For me it will be my primary work knife. I don't know how often I'll carry it off-duty due to its size, but it should be ideal for what it was designed for.

Aren't Busse's also sharpened pry bars?

Strider provides the option having a knife built in three thicknesses: 1/4", 5/32", and 1/8". So, it's up to you if you want a utility or a slasher.

cliff,
yup.
the one i saw had a liner lock.
very thick titanium liner lock.

Yeah, its a liner lock. It didn't start out to be one, but that was what they decided on in the end. Its still real beefy.

Ronald, Busse Combat's blades have full flat grinds and relatively acute edges. This is a high performance cutting geometry.

As for the Strider folder, I don't understand why they would put a liner lock on a heavy duty folder. I will be interested to see a review but I personally will wait to see what kind of lock Busse Combat puts on their blade. Maybe I will get lucky and REKAT will put a tool steel blade on one of their folders.

Well now...
We seem to have a bit of a discussion here.
I have to say, it sucks when we have a dissatisfied customer, which it sounds like we certainly do. I apologize for your dissatisfaction. Though we focus on a certain ‘hard use' group of customers, it sucks when ANY customer is not happy with our product. Perhaps you have purchased the wrong product here. Why was it that you purchased a WB with cord, when you don't like cord handles, ours most especially? Speaking for myself, I usually don't buy things that I don't like. Our cord handle was designed with certain task orientation in mind. We generally do not make ‘ergonomic' handles. They are very limiting in application, and difficult to make comfortable to every ones hand. Remember that my hand, and I am one of the two people who would make your handle, is not the same as yours. . They are certainly available however. We do them quite frequently. Remember that the reason makers build knives the way they do, is because it's what their customers want. Your WB is hollow ground using an eight inch wheel, because MOST of our customers like it that way. We are not however limited to such things. Most Strider Knives are also available in full-bevel grind, for those of you who do not like the hollow grind. All we need is a little input. Want a WB with full-bevel grind and an ergonomic G10 handle? We do them all the time. Give us a call, if your WB is in like new condition, sell it. We have six months worth of people waiting for one. ****, we'll even give you some great trade in value. If you do choose to trade your knife, try this first; take your WB and your favorite ergonomic handled blade, now cover each handle in motor oil. You folks like to talk about ‘gut juice', motor oil has the same viscosity as blood, so give it a try. Cover both pieces with motor oil, now play around with them. One will be exceptionally slippery. The other, our cord wrap, will not. Sometimes, when you live what others only dream, your hands can't always be cozy. Sorry but that's just the way it is.
Give us a call, we'll do our best to make you happy.

The rest of you...thanks again for the interest and support.

Mick, that blade is not Marion's, it was lent to him by the owner Brian Thornburg who very much thinks it is a great knife. Marion and Allen Blade were just doing some work with a few blades and Brian offered his WB to be included.

It is nice to see the great range of geometries available. I never realized this was the case before this thread. One question about the cord, if you do grease it up with motor oil, how do you clean that out?

Mick,

I am learning a great deal about your product.

In general I believe that you have a reasonable product, though it is not my cup of tea.

When my current projects are done, I may speak with you gentlemen about having something made.

Hey there MDP,
We look forward to it. And thanks for your honesty.

Post Script: I have spent quite a bit of time in your area...just north of you in Sandpoint.

Mr. Cliff,
Regarding the oil... You can't get it off very easily. Its best to just send it back and we will re-wrap it.
Thanks again for all the interest

Just a thought Cliff....you could try boiling it. Would more than likely work.
