Striking a FireSteel with a knife?

Well guys, I went back at it today to see if a day's rest would change anything. And, of course, it did. I guess it was a combination of a new rod and finding the right spot on the spine. On mine, the edges seem sharpest up toward the tip. Once I got the rod scrapped down a bit and found the right point on the knife, I'm throwing spark pretty well.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I may still fix up a hack saw blade to carry with me just so I don't bugger up this knife. Did I mention that I love this knife?

I generally don't like the strikers that come with most fire starters. My BCB did come with one that very much resembles a a section of hacksaw blade, with the addition of a short chisel grind edge angled out on one edge. Pretty rigid too.

If the spine of a knife won't do the trick, using th edge on a throw away folder is a good idea- the old carbon steel, broken and ground vintage folders from the gunshow junk-knife bins can be good for the purpose.
