15 minutes for the paint remover to soak the knife.
15 minutes to remove the black goo.

Enjoy.

Very nice!

Did you have to do anything after the paint was off?

any polishing, sanding, buffing?

Looks good! I used stripper on the head of my Cold Steel Trail Hawk and it works like a charm.

Hi Nemo -

That looks cool -

I have seen a few others that were not coated and that is a nice look.

Thanks for the pictures .

best regards -

Nemo,

Good looking knife man... Did you consider the increased risk to moisture?

Wondering if you plan on bead-blasting or maybe putting a patina on it?

I'd love to see an Izula patina with micarta scales.... I might just have to do that to mine.

Not sure what he used, but I've used this kind and it works great. Available at any WM or hardware store.

So... what's next? Leaving it alone? Putting some sort of sealant/protectant on it?

thank you for the nice words.

I have given the same treatment to my hest in january and did not get any trouble with moisture.
I'll keep the grey patina. So no buffering.
The next step is adding the official micarta slabs.
If you can find my previous thread with my hest I have pictured the paint remover.

I haven't used stripper before, so a question. I am going to remove the coating from the blade of my H.E.S.T. but I want to leave it on everywhere else. Will simply masking the area where I want the stripping to stop, work?

Very cool. Thanks for the post. I've been thinking of doing that myself, so the pics and such are a great help.
I would like to keep the black coating on my Izula. I'll just have to buy another to strip down.

I thought 'bout stripping mine but just threw on the micarta slabs and I think she's good for a bit...

the handle kit is AWESOME :D

I'm a step away from purchasing an izula, and just for my curiosity, Why do people strip their knives?
I understand the cool factors, but does it help its performance by a lot in any way?
I guess I'll try it myself in the future....

I'm guessing this is it?

Very nice work, Nemo, on both knives. You're a true artiste.

Thank you for the link! :)

Yes it should work.

The coating on the ESEE knives is great but sometime you want to "feel" a softer surface under your finger. It's a matter of personal preference.
I don't think it would change a lot the performance.

The grey finish on my knives seems to protect them well from moisture.
I got some uncoated 1095 knives which can rust in a blink of an eyes.

I got an RC-3 all black (the micarta is also black) and I don't have any plan to strip it. I like it this way. But my HEST and now my Izula were to tempting as I hold them a lot by their blades for fine cutting.
YMMV. :)

Cheers
Nemo
