Strong Beater Pocket-Sized Folder, Easy to Sharpen for Less than $100.

I also think a Cold Steel Recon 1 or American Lawman would be a great pick. The Spyderco Manix 2 is also very well made. Good Luck! Kevin :D:thumbup:

I personally prefer the combo of a fairly thin slicer paired with a multitool or SAK. Ive heard great things about the Cold Steels for these purposes though

ZT 0200 for absolute strength. it is a little more expensive, but it will be worth it. other than that, probably a triad lock. if i have heard this much about them. they have to be good.

For my whole life, I carried around a blade for EDC, but none were really name-brand stuff until the last few years. My first real EDC was a Kershaw Tone and I -still- use it. It's a real beater. Strong knife, no blade play, and I've used it for batoning stuff up to a few inches thick. Best thing, I only paid like $30 bucks for the knife and if I'm not mistaken it has a lifetime warranty. You may not like this, but it's an assisted opening knife. I love it, and if you want to get a $30 knife that can take a beating, I'd say atleast try the Kershaw Tone out. I'm sure other people are going to suggest Spyderco's and whatnot, but I'm going to be an oddball and throw the Kershaw as an idea for you.

I used my Cold Steel American Lawman to pry 74 year old thick wood molding that was nailed every 12 inches and the pieces were all over 12 feet in length from an interior room of office the other day, these molding were nailed into solid pine center match walls. I was hammering the butt of the knife with a hammer to get the blade way up in between the wall and the molding and then prying like H E double hockey stix. The boards were popping, spliting and exploding but guess what they all came off the wall. The lawman looked none the worse for wear after and NO, NONE, ZERO vertical or horizontal blade play. I've started using Lawman's all over the place and just beating on em to see if it will give and NOTHING seems to phase this knife except sand and salt water, but thats another story.

The knife is stupid tough and worth every penny of the price you can get them for, same goes for a Rat 1 another well made tough as nails piece, however i find the handle design of the lawman better and easier to open knife than the rat 1 and the aggressive g 10 makes for a much better handle purchase than rat 1, but hey rat 1 is 30 bucks NIB shipped to your door. Cold steel lawman will be about 2X that.

Either way you can't go wrong.

Ontario RAT-1 is good option.....very stout and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
