Student Arrested For Knife, Boston

Anthony,

Your explanation of why you brought race into this still confuses me...

Are you saying that it is his race that caused him to hide the knife in his shoe and lie about it, or are you saying that is it the fact that he may have been from an "inner city neighborhood" that caused him to act this way? (That would be more of a "social" or "income level" argument...) You can not expect anyone to believe that those two things are mutually exclusive: There are many people who come from "inner city neighborhoods" who are not black, do not carry knives it their shoes and do not lie. There are also many families (of all races) from those same neighborhoods who teach their children to trust and respect the police.

"Inner city neighborhood" does not equal "Black", "outlaw" or "punk, and "Black" does not equal distrust, underprivileged (this kid seems to be going to a good school) or an excuse to break the law...

Like I said before; IMHO, your points (which I wholehearted agreed with) were much more valid before you dragged race into it.

Just a thought,

Everybody who attends a nice school is not from a comfortable background. Some people come through scholarship from very rough back grounds. Many African Americans from rough backgrounds grow up knowing that many police, especially those who are not from their communities, see all young blacks as suspects until proven otherwise. C4, the thing that you and others keep forgetting about my post is that I have always said that what this young man did was dumb and that he deserved to arrested. His background may have made him less trusting of police and he may deserve a break but that does not excuse what he did. Me giving a possible explanation for his action does mean I condone or accept his action. I think I have made this plain. If not, I don't really care, I'm tired of discussing this issue now.
