Stuff you wouldn't think would dull a blade

I found that scotch pads really wear them down. I had to cut one at work and I regretted it almost instantly. You could just hear the crunching of hard material. :/

Your post kinda frightens me a bit...

Haha, with you on that one

I think the most surprisingly abrasive thing that I didn't expect would have to be denim. I tore a pair of my jeans and just decided to roll some of the fabric up and cut 1" slices off of it. Didn't even get through the first cut before the edge was basically dull and it was only the edge geometry and pressure acting like a shear that was doing the cutting.

Withered and dried bamboo was also surprisingly rough on an edge. It was basically impregnated with dust and dirt as well though...

Mini coopers. I can't stand 'em and make it a habit to baton through them whenever I come across one. They tend to dull my knife pretty quick.

I heard that zip-ties can be hard on an edge. I've heard that zip-ties can easily roll an edge. I think I read It's because zip-ties are made up of little pieces of glass, or at least that's what's in the zip tie itself.

^^they eat up edges^^

I was cuting some straps I thought the where plastic they turned out to steel...........

Been there...done that. Also cut some plastic rope for lack of a better word. It had a steel cable in it. It took a while to straighten that one out!

Fiberglass insulation is a monster, dish sponges with a 'scrubbing' side are as well.
Im a home builder and re-modeler and I cannot tell you how I hate cutting Fiberglass Insulation. I can burn up 10 or more of the stanley utility blades a day if im insulating. Another thing that I hate are those Fire resistant ceiling tiles that have fiber glass in them. Zip ties can be brutal the good quality ones will just kill an edge fast ive given up using knifes on them I just grab some side cutters or aviation sheers now days.

That white looking shipping tape that has the strands in it. It will dull a good blade in just a few cuts.

Only ballistic nylon sheath I own came with the Hogue EX-F01. I was pretty surprised when I found micro-chips in the blade from the sheath. The plastic lining has a seam right where the edge sits; sheathing and unsheathing messed up the edge before I even had a chance to use the knife. :thumbdn:

Carpet, though it's not unexpected, its still rough. It's nothing like human flesh which you can cut through for hours before it dulls a knife.

Rather than buying carpet by the roll, you should try Poly. It's a lot lighter and WAY more compact to carry to your "jobs".

Spend a few extra bucks and get the black stuff.

Hell.....maybe heavy-duty bags would be better.
