Style of the month categories

Ed fowler uses the term "High-performance knives". I don't know if anyone makes a better one, but I know who's I would like to own.

How about as sub categories of Best Design, Design influences and Most distinctive?

Gus,

Just went back and read the related threads. Great idea!

BUT... A whole month? That's close to an eternity on BFC!!! What if we were talking about knives with lots of holes in the handles (just ordered a Mayo Ultralite TNT last night)?? Can you imagine how long that post would be?? (Tom and Jerry fighting it out over the "even" hole spacing...)

You seem to have collected lots of topics: How about one a week? "Last weeks topic" would probably remain close to the top of the list of topics, but would be allowed to die a natural death... unless it was a true "smoker". If it was really hot, it would stay at the top by popular demand....

Just my thoughts...

I think a month may be a little long for a topic as well. Things will change enough in the knife industry to revisit topics after(if) we run out of topics.
I am not sure if this has been covered as a topic(maybe under ethnic), but I would like to see Japanese style knives covered.

Keith.

So, when does all this begin? I can hardly wait.
I was looking at the list of and thinking about how many there were that did not really interest me. As I thought more about it i realized that the reason that I did not have much interest in a lot of the topics was that I did not know much about them. This is going to give me a heck of a lot more knowledge about knives and for that reason I am very excited about this whole idea.
So let's get ready to rumble.

Keith.

Gus,

After reading Keith's post, I thought maybe we could get a maker or two for ethnic/style type topics to discuss history, design, materials, and processes for these knives to give us all a new appreciation for the knife style. I would like to hear about some of the less known styles and why the makers choose to make this or that style. There are a lot of knowledgable makers here!

Jeff, I think that is a great idea. This is going to be a lot of fun. I do not know if this is your idea Gus, but if it is it is a fabulous one.

I have not fallen asleep on this

Just a busy weekend.

Yup a month is too long. Keep in mind stuff will be featured for a while (a week?), that does not mean we would shut down the other threads. People could add to them any time they wish.

By featured, I was thinking that we could have some folks drop in and help us out for a short period of time with their expertice.

Anyone interested? Please email me.

So Gus, when do we start this thing going?
Another topic I would like to cover would be locking mechanisms(not as part of locking folders). As an example, we could have someone like Bill McHenry discuss the Axis lock if he was willing.

Keith.

Hi Keith,
Still trying to find folks interested in spending the time. Most of these folks are pretty busy and I am a little embarassed to ask and I prefer to do it face to face.
We will get it going.
It would also be good to see some more support within our membership too. I will need help in a few areas in which I do not have contacts especially with ethnic and primitive type knives.

Gus
I can pitch in help a bit if it is needed.
